Doorstep visit with someone who has returned from abroad

Family members have returned from 2 months abroad yesterday (red list countries, where arrivals from Monday have to do 10 days quarantine hotel). They are self isolating at home for 10 days now.

My partner assumed we would be going to stand on doorstep (them standing back in their hallway) like we did before this current lockdown.

I said no, this is different, they are self isolating for 10 days we can't visit.

He thinks I'm being unreasonable. Am I reading too much into the rules/guidance?

Except the OP said “family members” so cannot meet them all in one go which was the implication in first post as “we would stand on the doorstep” is already meaning two people meeting one other. Also, the rules are such that some areas are dining people for travelling to meet up with another person for a walk. Depends how far they live away.

Hopefully 22nd Feb will give more clarity and cases keep dropping.

I would leave stuff on the doorstep but have a good wave through the front window if that works

When we were isolating we ordered click and collect and family dropped it at the door

This thread is a bit of an eye opener. Do people not speak to delivery people any more? I always have a chat with the Sainsbury driver when they drop my groceries off each week. And say thanks to Amazon/Hermes/postman making deliveries. I also talk to my neighbours if I bump into them outside. Are some people really not having any interaction with others? (If not officially shielding)

I'm the same @Pimlicojo, although I don't think I've ever managed to speak to the Amazon driver as he's usually out the gate and back in his van before I get to the door! I've spoken to my neighbour more over the last year than in the previous 12 years we've lived here.
