Unsure whether to book vaccine appointment

I received my text this week, inviting me for the jab, as I'm in group 6.

I thought I would be elated, but instantly a sense of dread came over me. I have pretty bad health anxiety, which also spans to medication generally. I worry about medications and side effects. It freaks me out.

I'm on an immunosuppressant because of my condition, but apparently that doesn't cause you to get worse covid. I find that very confusing. But my doctors said that. The vaccine is also fine to have on the immunosuppressant.

Here is my worry- what if I die after ? There was a doctor in Florida who died due to a rare condition kicked off by the vaccine. It's very rare apparently, but it can happen.

I am not anti vaccinations by any means but when my children get theirs, I worry a lot that they'll have bad reactions.

In addition to this I am confused about the messaging from the government. I thought things were going to get a lot better because of the vaccines but this week there have been such negative messages from government ( Grant Shapps ) it has really made me wonder what the hell is going on and why I should even get the vaccine if things won't change or get better ?

May I also add that I've been absolutely terrified of getting / dying of covid this entire year. To the extent that I've had panic attacks about it/ not been able to sleep/ been in the pits of despair. I am in counselling by the way and have been most of the year.

I want the vaccine ! I need reassurance I am going to be OK. I guess this is all about how you evaluate risk. I've been reading a lot about that this year, to calm myself down. I'm over evaluating the risk of the vaccine and I know it's irrational but I'm still really scared. I also over evaluated the risk of dying form covid, which was also irrational. It's been a tough year ! Any kind words of advice welcome.

Absolutely! There are other reports falsely claiming pork is involved in the vaccines to discourage Muslims and Jews having their vaccine 😡

Awful - only one reason for that. Angry fortunately Israel, which will surely have checked this, is steaming ahead with their vaccs, as are the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
WiseUpJanetWeiss · 13/02/2021 09:43

We know they don't eliminate the possibility.
We do know they reduce severity in vaccinated people who get cv.
We do know that you're much less likely to be seriously ill or die if you've been vaccinated.

Yes quite, but the PP stating categorically that the vaccines do not (i.e. never) prevent infection is wrong. The evidence isn’t in yet.

How are people receiving invites for vaccines? Post, text email?
DH is 69 and hasn't heard anything.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/02/2021 09:48

@Ginfordinner DH (66) got a text on Tuesday inviting him to book. He could have gone that evening but booked an appointment for Wednesday morning. My Uncle and his partner received letters and had to phone to book.

I had a phone call inviting me for a vaccine the next day at a mass hub.
I was delighted, as I’ve been ill with long Covid for ten months, have lung damage after being hospitalised with it, and was dreading a repeat infection that might finish me off.
I gladly struggled the third of a mile from the car park and waited 20 minutes in the snow and wind to get done.
That was yesterday, and I have no ill effects except a sore arm.
Go for it, OP. And anyone else reading this who is swithering over the decision. I wouldn’t wish long Covid on anyone. Choosing the vaccine is a no brainer.

OpheliasCrayon · 13/02/2021 10:08

@ginfordinner yes that's true but me personally I'm not worried about covid as I've had it and was mild.
However people getting vaccinated is extremely important for all the CEV children who just can't have the vaccine as it's not approved for kids yet - that's who I think of in these discussions (namely as I work with plenty)

stampsurprise · 14/02/2021 13:51

I hope you are feeling better about it all today OP.

Have you long to wait for your appointment?

unmumsymummy21 · 16/02/2021 13:55

Huge congratulations to you!

How are you feeling now OP?

unmumsymummy21 · 17/02/2021 10:29

@stampsurprise I'm feeling good about it. Just blocking out the worries. No point in worrying now. It's done. Millions of people have had it. It is what it is. Just a flu jab. I keep telling myself that. Haha

You have done very well! That is the worst bit behind you - making the decision to have it. I’ve been there!Smile

Izzy24 · 18/02/2021 10:34

You did the right thing OP

Bells3032 · 18/02/2021 10:58

I've been volunteering as a post vaccine observer and watched over hundreds of people who have had the vaccine. Out of those one felt a little light headed and was fine after 20 minutes of lying down. The worst anyone else good was a bit of bleeding that stopped within a few minutes.

Like someone else said there have been millions and millions of people who have been vaccinate and very very few complications. just get it over with asap and then you have less to worry about on everything.
