Just wondering what happens if you have the1st vaccine and due to have the 2nd and for whatever reason you can't have within the 12 weeks would you have to have the 1st vaccine again to then have the 2nd top up one?

I guess it will depend how long. Immunity doesn't drop off a cliff after 12 weeks, it may not reduce much at all, it may be that you could wait much longer, it's just that 12 weeks is known to be an optimum spacing for the AZ vaccine at least. It may also be for other vaccines but hasn't been tested yet.

The policy is that you should have the second dose as soon as you can after the 12 weeks. Not that you get another “first dose” (actually your 2nd) and then a “second dose” (actually your third) 12 weeks later.
