I just opened some birthday cards and...

It's nearly my birthday and I received some cards in the post. I opened them and cried and cried and cried.

They were all full of "I hope to see you this year." "Hopefully see you soon."

I just miss everyone so much

Would you have preferred it if they had not said those things?

Or if your birthday was just over 4 weeks later, and this was the second one you were spending under restrictions? You have lucky timing, and a likelihood that you will have a bittersweet birthday only once.

Video calls aren't the same, but are you keeping up, with people that way? Or rioting to them (old fashioned way or email) or lots of little messages on other platforms?

It is really pants.
I turned 29 last year in lockdown and so many people said at least it isn't your 30th I was meant to be on the holiday of a lifetime for my 30th so it is a double disappointment this year. Happy Birthday

Happy birthday OP. I got emotional for my 40th at the cards (not even in lockdown). Just overwhelmed at my lovely friends.

You will see them. You are worth the wait and so are they. True friends are the ones that it doesn't matter if you don't see them for years, they are always there for you. We are lucky to have them but it makes not seeing them all the tougher.

@RoseAndRose I am.spending around 7 hours a day on zoom and an additional 2 or 3 hours at the computer for work and have 2 preschoolers. I have zero energy left for zoom socialising.

I'm ok. I just miss my nan, my mum, my brother. He has a baby who I've only met a couple of times.

Lockdown birthdays are rubbish OP. Even people who don't really care about birthdays, find lockdown birthdays rubbish. We have lots of "big" birthdays this year - my grandpa's 90th, my 30th, my cousin's 18th, my Aunt's 60th. Maybe we will be able to celebrate the one which is in May as long as there arent too many of us.

Your feelings are perfectly valid OP - it is so sad that we have all lost a year of celebrations etc and yes l know we should be grateful for what we have got but still allowed to be upset about the situation.

My birthday will be lovely. I have my 2 preschoolers and husband. I know I'm fortunate.

I guess it doesn't mean we can't miss other people in our lives.

I won't be seeing anyone else safely on my birthday. My eldest is prone to infections which need hospital treatment and so we are staying out of it.

It's mine very soon too, and I had already essentially 'locked down' last year as I saw what was coming and I'm 51 & diabetic so wants to try to stay out if its path!

I live alone, I might have to get the teddy bears out for a carpet picnic party 🎂🍭🤣
