Covid may have saved my Dad’s life

My Dad (60) has never been in hospital in his life , 25 years since he went to see a doctor . He caught covid just before new year , passed it onto myself , my partner and my Mum ... so we all had it , however he was hospitalised a week after New Year where they found out that he had Covid-pneumonia . He was in for 10 days and he came home on 24 hour oxygen and hasn’t left the house til today ...

However whilst in hospital he’s been made to deal with the issues that he’s been ignoring for 18 months . He’s had urine in his blood for most of that time , couldn’t hold his bladder for long , loss of appetite etc , he had to have over 3 litres of blood due to being dangerously anaemic whilst in hospital , he was the colour of Homer Simpson but every time we mentioned it he would tell us he was fine and he didn’t need a doctor . He would shut us down til we changed the subject ...

So today , he was sent for a scan of his kidneys , he refused to go for the other urology appointment last week so yesterday I told him enough was enough , he was going and I’m taking him ! I planned it all so he couldn’t refuse and this morning I went at 8.45am with him to his scan, where , not only did they find a large blood clot on his lung but also what they think is a tumour on his kidney !! So he’s back in hospital tonight , covid free , but without catching it my Dad would never have gone for medical advice , he’s only gone now because long covid has left so much damage that he can’t put it off day to day .

Now they need to sort his lungs out so he can come off oxygen before they can operate to see what the situation is with his kidney but we just need to stay positive !

Thank you covid , for making my Dad face upto his health problems !!!

Nice to hear some good news. Imagine that, covid saved his life!

I’m really hoping this is the case , but if the worst does happen then at least he’s got more chance of surviving than not dealing with it at all . Covid has been good to our family ! My Mum has copd and thank god she only got a headache when she caught it ..
Praying it stays positive news !

Oh no I am sorry he is so unwell.

My dad is terrible for going to the doctor and he had one episode of blood in his wee, panicked and thankfully went to the dr right away and had bladder cancer. Hopefully he will get sorted but he needs to get it into him he cannot ignore that. Often it goes away and people think it was a one off and don’t get it checked out to their peril :(

Wow op. Amazing that your mum was ok, what a strange positive with regards to your dad, from something so awful. I wish him a speedy recovery from covid, I hope whatever they have found can be easily & successfully treated. Flowers

I wonder if covid may have caused the blood clot as heard it has bring on clotting problems like that. They will give him some kind of blood thinner I think. Hope all goes well Flowers
