DD smells weird

Hear me out...

DD (5) is currently isolating after someone in her school bubble tested positive. She seems fine and has a temp of 37 which is completely normal for her. But - she smells different. Do you know when your children have that poorly smell?

I do lateral flow tests for work and did one on her (I appreciate they're not 100% accurate) and it was a task but it was negative as was mine.

Could I book a PCR test on account of her smelling strange. It's not a covid symptom!

I know this sounds strange now I type it out 🥴 but I'll post it anyway!

@BluebellsGreenbells

The smell is Ketones

Look it up

Unless the DR is diabetic or doing Atkins, it's unlikely to be ketones. Look it up.

*DD.

Ahhh. Actually, I wonder if you meant cytokines? Similar looking word, but not the same thing.

My kids always get this ‘smell’ when they have tonsillitis, it’s hard to explain but it’s almost like a sweet weird smell. It’s the first time of tonsillitis for all of them.

I know what you mean about the poorly smell. Both of mine have smelly breath when they’re getting a cold.

Tonsillitis is what it could be if the rest comes back negative. It's a very tonsillitisy/sore throat smell.

Thanks for your replies everyone.

Being a mum is so glam 💅🏼

Oh goodness, this takes me back. My DC always had the 'ill' smell, too. I always thought it was just them!

SallyAnn32 · 08/02/2021 11:16

Thankfully the test was negative! But she has a sore throat so lots of ice cream and cuddles x

That's good to hear.
