4 month old baby coughing

My 4 month old daughter has developed a cough over the last 24 hours. We’ve noticed it a few times. She’s not got a temp but she is a bit more sleepy than usual but we didn’t really think anything of that because she’s not been sleeping as well overnight so we thought she was just making up for that.
I feel tired - but with first period after birth, a 4 month old not sleeping well, and depression I’m not surprised?
So what would you do? Would you get a test for a 4 month old who had a cough when me and partner are exhibiting no symptoms?

Yes, a new cough and you need to test, even if it’s a baby. The whole household needs to isolate too until you get the results.

I would (you only have to swab her nostrils so it's not hard to do) but I would expect the result to be negative.

Get a test. Its really easy with babies. I've had to do my 9 month old twice so far. Much easier than the 5 year old!

Where have you been that you might have caught it? Do you work?

booandbumpp · 02/02/2021 11:38

@DownWhichOfLate only been to Asda this week. I’m on mat leave and have only seen my mum who is only going to aldi. DP a teacher and working from home!

In which case it’s highly unlikely. Could you just isolate for ten days instead?

booandbumpp · 02/02/2021 11:55

@DownWhichOfLate we could but realistically need to walk the dog. We could sort shopping out but I think the dog would destroy the house if he didn’t get a walk for 10 days (which obviously I will put up with I f we need to).
I’ve booked a test today for me and DP. Realistically for LO to get it she would have got it from one of us so I’d rather avoid testing her! I figured if me and DP are negative then she’s just got a cough!

Ah! Yes, sounds like she could have only caught it from you. Fingers crossed it’s negative and that your baby gets better soon.

booandbumpp · 02/02/2021 12:29

@DownWhichOfLate thank you! I can’t wait for a time when a cough is just a cough!

Oh yes, having to question every little cough etc is exhausting in itself. With a young baby as well must be incredibly hard work. Are you getting GP support for your depression? It’s a challenging time.

MrsTeachers · 02/02/2021 12:35

I think it's unlikely but good idea to get yourself abs DP tested just in case

booandbumpp · 02/02/2021 12:35

@DownWhichOfLate yes - I’ve been put on sertraline which I started Thursday last week. I also have a counsellor every week due to PTSD. Hopefully the sertraline will kick in soon!

@MrsTeachers thank you - I think it’s unlikely too, but I also know that you can get it following every rule!
She has been a lot sleepier today - so I think she’s not 100%!

Well done. Facing up to depression is very hard. Flowers
