If you had digestive issues with Covid, what was it like?

For the last few days I’ve felt off. Headachey, slightly dizzy, weird pressure in my head and ears. No breathing issues or chest issues thankfully but I feel exhausted even though I’m sleeping fine (I think!).
Yesterday I developed a churning, bloated stomach (I look six months pregnant) but not an upset stomach IYSWIM. It feels more akin to trapped wind than upset stomach, but it’s not that either.

DH thinks I should get a test but I don’t have a fever, no cough, no loss of taste or smell. I have a bit of a blocked up nose and feel a bit run down but that’s it.

If you had digestive issues with Covid, were they more upset stomach like? I know symptoms affect people differently but I was just looking for a straw poll as I was under the impression that what I’ve got wasn’t what people were experiencing

I am in day 5 of Covid. Started off just feeling unwell, nausea and running to the loo. Then got a really dry nose and ear ache. None of the top three but got a test as daughter tested positive.
Only just lost smell today and cough etc only recent. I would get one. I wonder if the new variant has different symptoms? Hope you feel better soon x

I had GI symptoms at the beginning. Consisted of nausea, real churning feeling in stomach, and diarrhoea (yellow 🤢) 2-3 times a day. Respiratory symptoms very mild and only from day 7 once GI symptoms improved. I had heart palpitations and the GP told me to have dioralyte which really helped.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 30/01/2021 23:25

I had headache, flu like symptoms, muscle aches, fatigue but no cough.
On about day 5 after my symptoms started I had some really bad tummy pain, bloating and diarrhoea for a couple of days but no nausea or vomiting.

I had a positive test and there was an outbreak at my work so everyone was getting tested.

There's pretty easy availability of tests these days (not like in the summer) so I don't think there's anything to lose from getting a test if you have symptoms even if not the 'right' ones. You are not doing anyone out of a test and you could be helping to stop spread if you are identified positive and your contacts then isolate. I think you should get one.

squishedblueberry · 30/01/2021 23:29

Oh okay! Sounds like it’s worth getting a test then. Thank you! I hope everyone who has had it is feeling okay and managing their symptoms ok.

It was very shit for 2 weeks pretty much in bed the whole time, then I felt a bit off for 2 more weeks but able to go back to work and after that back to normal self.
That was the same for most of the many people at my work (more than 50 people) who had it aged 20s-50s thank goodness.

TheVanguardSix · 30/01/2021 23:34

Week one of DH's symptoms were entirely gastric, like allbellyandboobs described except he was just in the loo constantly... not even making it, his runs were so bad. It was just awful because he became so weak so fast. The respiratory symptoms started about a week later. He ended up in ICU unfortunately with a covid pneumonia and sepsis. Anyway, that was nearly 5 weeks ago now and he's still not there yet, but so much better than he was.

squishedblueberry · 30/01/2021 23:42

I’m so sorry to hear that @TheVanguardSix I am glad to hear he’s on the mend what a relief
I don’t have anything like you describe (yet!) fortunately it’s more gassy discomfort but I’ll get a test and keep an eye on it

I'd suggest a test too. Let us know how you get on.

squishedblueberry · 30/01/2021 23:51

I will do, thank you! Fingers crossed it’s not, I’ve only been on daily outside walks as have been wfh but the new strain is a lot more infectious so who knows

Headache, fatigue, diarrhoea, muscle pain, skipping meals and confusionare the symptoms of the newer Covid strains. Tbey are asking people to test on them.

I had the original strain and it was just like food poisoning. I also had the body rash. I needed antibiotics to shift my chest infection.

I had ( and still have tbh) an uncomfortable abdomen. It's what I would have described as 'tummy ache' as a child. It's not severe and I've had no diarrhoea. It's now been 3 weeks since I was diagnosed and had two weeks of being extremely unwell and in bed. I'm now almost 100% better and this is the only symptom left and one I can live with until it goes away

Rowgtfc72 · 31/01/2021 06:23

Dh came home from work with stabbing stomach pains. Fri he was very very warm. Yesterday he woke up with a banging headache.
Currently waiting for test results!

LeFluffyPants · 31/01/2021 08:14

For me the stomach issues with Covid were very odd - nausea and a grumbling tummy, but then this occasional feeling like I HAD to eat something immediately! It sort of reminded me of pregnancy sickness in a way.. anyway hope you feel better soon OP whatever you’ve got!

Athinginitself · 31/01/2021 08:21

I totally lost my apetite (although not my sense of taste or smell)and had dioareah and severe fatigue, I also had a lot of breathing problems-chest pain, breathlessness, low oxygen and felt very disoriented.

PullingAtTeeth · 31/01/2021 08:22

I started with nausea and a sinus type pressure/headache. Then felt like I had a cold. I was positive. Only lost my taste and smell a week later.

Jsummersun · 31/01/2021 08:46

My first symptom was nausea and just a feeling of stomach upset like a hangover.

Did have other symptoms mainly aches, fortunately mildly, but the nausea persisted on and off for a couple of weeks. Mind you - it didn’t stop me eating!

Jsummersun · 31/01/2021 08:48

I had the test and was positive, (through Zoe app) a big surprise as no classic symptoms.

Rowgtfc72 · 31/01/2021 10:16

Dh interestingly enough tested negative!
