Anyone's symptoms feel exactly like a cold??

Thurs and Fri I had a niggling sore throat. The type I often get before a cold or with post nasal drip.

Today I woke up shivery/chilly (but no temp), slightly achy and tired, and the sore throat gone but my nose runny.

I went to my support bubble's yesterday because I didn't think it could be COVID related and I've only been to one place for weeks (the park last Saturday, was insanely busy and crowded though, absolutely no where else), no contact with any one except support bubble, DC home schooling, I'm unemployed just now.

My support bubble has a very ECV member ☹️☹️ and the other member not technically vulnerable but male, middle aged and overweight.

I may be over worrying, but I read that the new variant can be cold like symptoms.

My DS had a positive test in November with different symptoms and my DD had symptoms then but negative test.

Has anyone any experience of COVID being just like a cold??

I'd get a test with those symptoms. Sore throat might not be one of the main three but it's definitely one of the well known symptoms people seem to have.

sunshineandshowers21 · 30/01/2021 18:04

mine started off pretty much the same. sore throat, runny nose, tiredness, and aching all over. the loss of smell and taste came about four days after that and i had no temperature at all. i’d get a test just to be sure.

Thanks

@sunshineandshowers21 Did you have COVID recently??

I booked a test.

Sore throat is a symptom of the new variant. You should never have gone to a vulnerable persons house with cold symptoms let alone possible covid.

Enidblyton1 · 30/01/2021 18:10

My sister just had cold symptoms. She only had a test though her work - otherwise would never have known it was covid.
Even if your symptoms aren’t covid, I’m not sure it was a good idea to visit anyone who is ECV when you have any kind of illness (I don’t mean this to sound nasty - just interesting that we don’t think twice about passing other germs on to vulnerable people! You’re not alone in this)

QueenOfPain · 30/01/2021 18:12

I’ve got covid currently.

My symptoms have been diarrhoea, fever, runny nose, sneezes, very mild sore throat, very mild/very infrequent cough, general body soreness/weakness and fatigue.

It’s all been quite mild, feels like the first few days of a cold that never really built up to anything,

My DH and I had cold symptoms just after Christmas and only started to wonder if it might be Covid when I developed a bad cough......we tested, he was negative and I was positive. Thankfully, apart from the hacking cough it never got any worse than a cold and I was better within around 10 days.

I often get a sore throat the same (post nasal drip). This vulnerable person refuses to shield or even wash their hands properly and goes to many, many more places than me, goes to different shops three times daily for example.

I thought it was just one of my usual scratchy throats until this morning.

That's interesting, that's me today except no diahorrea.

How long have you had the symptoms?? They haven't gotten worse??

It was exactly like a cold for me. I carried on going to work. It was only when I lost my taste and smell that I got the test.

MadeForThis · 30/01/2021 19:00

My symptoms were sore head and scratchy throat.

Tested as dd2 was positive.

I didn't lose sense of smell until a few days later.

Figgyboa · 30/01/2021 19:13

I've currently got Covid, on day 7 of symptoms.
I only have cold symptoms but this by far the worst 'cold' I've had....nasal congestion, ear ache, sore throat. I lost my sense of smell and taste on day 5.

QueenOfPain · 30/01/2021 19:17

I’m day 8 of symptoms today.

Last Friday I woke quite abruptly from sleep with severe lower abdo cramping and about 10 minutes of awful diarrhoea. Didn’t think much of it,
But the next morning I awoke with a fever of 39.1 and continual diarrhoea all day, and then rest of the symptoms gradually kicked off after that. Diarrhoea stopped about day 3.

A week today since my positive test.

Lindy2 · 30/01/2021 19:25

I currently have Covid. It's been like a head cold with sensitive sinuses, blocked ears/ear ache and a sore throat. I wouldn't have met the requirements to get tested but as DH, who is a keyworker, tested positive after an outbreak where he works, I knew it was likely I had caught it from him. He has had head cold symptoms too but he also lost his taste and smell for a few days and has had gastric problems. I would get tested to know for sure. The range of symptoms this virus has are very wide and it really doesn't seem that the classic 3 always apply.

Porcupineintherough · 30/01/2021 20:27

Ds1 and I had COVID in Dec. I started w sore throat and cold symptoms then went on to develop the characteristics cough/loss of smell etc. Ds1 just had mild cold symptoms, he wasnt really ill at all.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 30/01/2021 20:38

Really anyone with any new symptoms that they would normally brush off as just a headache or just a cold should really stay away from others and get a test just in case.

ChocBeforeCock · 30/01/2021 21:21

I had covid recently and it was exactly like a cold. Bad throat, runny nose and gastric symptoms.

I hope you’re well soon OP Flowers

I know that, believe me I'm the most likely to isolate. I've isolated from my support bubble and even my own DC numerous times just in case!!

The scratchy throat I had for 2 days prior to this morning - I have that very, very often and it's so rarely anything other than dry air or post nasal drip. I have the exact same scratchy throat previously so many times it's come to nothing.

It wasn't until this morning though I started with the shiveriness, runny nose, tiredness.

I've ordered a test and am isolating now.

@SilverGlitterBaubles if only our government thought that way Hmm

BarelyMerry · 30/01/2021 21:38

I tested positive on Thursday - I got tested after DHs positive test on Tuesday. We both are a bit tired and achy, with slightly runny noses. I'm quite tired today, but neither of us has had a temp, persistent cough or loss of taste & smell. We had to falsify our symptoms to book a test through the NHS app as that only lists the 3. I made DH get a test as a work colleague that he met with on Friday tested positive.

Flowersupnorth · 30/01/2021 21:52

I am on day 5. Started with headache and ear ache. Then very dry nose and aches and pains.Only lost smell today and cough only really got bad today. Main constant symptom for me has been nausea. Test and trace rang me today and said if no smell and cough after 10 days fine not to isolate any more but if I am still sick, sneezing or runny nose to get medical advice?? Odd!
