Mum with cancer has tested positive

Just wondering if anyone here has been through this, as I'm worried sick.

My DM has a type of cancer which ultimately can't be cured but she responded well to treatment, and has been doing reasonably well lately. She tested positive for covid yesterday and is feeling very out of sorts but no serious symptoms yet.

Obviously I'm really worried and I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience of covid in cancer patients. I'm imagining the worst because she's high risk. She had her first dose of the vaccine a week ago, but that's probably too recent to have made a difference.

My Mum also has cancer and this is a worry. I am sending you best wishes. There is far more hope now and increasingly daily. If she does need treatment, there are good options.

Thanks scrambling. It's so frustrating when she's just had her first vaccine as well, we just have to hope it helps her in some way.

Hope your mum is doing ok, it's such a stressful thing even without covid being in the mix.

A family friend has a rare untreatable cancer and caught it in Nov. She barely had a cough and fully recovered after catching it. It doesn't have to be awful OP.

RosesforMama · 30/01/2021 17:11

My friend has terminal cancer, in that they cannot offer further treatment but she could have 1 year or 15.....she had covid over Christmas, was poorly at home like the flu, but never needed hospital treatment and is fine now. We did insist she monitor herself on a pulse oximeter.

wfhconfusion · 30/01/2021 17:32

Thank you both, that is reassuring.

My friends mam caught covid last year a week or two after finishing breast cancer treatment. She had it really mildly. Her husband had it worse than her

Acinonyx2 · 01/02/2021 18:23

Friend with cancer just had covid during chemo. She was fluey for a few days (so was her dh and ds) but not serious. (Chemo made her much sicker than covid.)

PrpleRain · 01/02/2021 19:12

My dad has is diabetic, has got heart problems and stage 4 cancer. He is currently going through chemo and hormonal therapy. He caught covid in November and was poorly for maybe 2 weeks ( didn’t need to go to hospital).
I send my best wishes-I know how worried you must be right now!💐

Thanks everyone. She was vomiting a lot at the beginning but that's stopped. She's just exhausted now. Really hoping that's as bad as it gets.
