WWYD? Been offered place on list for vaccine, but not priority group

TierFourTears · 29/01/2021 13:37

I'm not in any of the priority groups for a vaccine.
Work have just said that as I'm involved in lateral flow testing, I can be put on a wait list for a covid vaccination with 24 hrs notice of the appointment.

Part of me says take it, but then you see all the angst of people saying folk are queue jumping, and why should a healthy (overweight!) under 40 get vaccinated before the higher priority groups.
WWYD? Accept and keep quiet or decline the possibility of an appointment?

Accept it. You have no means of knowing that "your" dose would go to someone more vulnerable than you if you choose not to have it.

Mamamia456 · 29/01/2021 13:41

I would accept, if you're testing people who may have the virus then it makes sense for you to be vaccinated if you're at higher risk of catching it.

ILookAtTheFloor · 29/01/2021 13:43

Take it.

I also have a role that I didn't dream would result in a vaccine but then my boss gave me the letter on Monday. I felt incredibly guilty as I'm very low risk and there are so many more people that deserve it more than me. However, my boss was clear that I'm entitled to it and encouraged all staff to have it so I had it yesterday.

Seeline · 29/01/2021 13:44

If it's a short notice thing, it probably means that there have been no shows, or they have vaccine left over that would otherwise be wasted. I would take it.

LadyCatStark · 29/01/2021 13:45

Accept it, it would go to waste otherwise.

Poppystars · 29/01/2021 13:46

Accept it, everyone else is.

I am hoping as an ECV teacher I may eventually get offered a vaccine. If not, the teaching assistant covering my class will continue to do so and not a lot I can do about it. I will keep teaching on Teams but am annoyed I cannot be in due to lack of vaccine.

Friends who are nhs working from home have had vaccine but will not do patient facing roles, careers/nhs staff on maternity leave have had vaccine.

It is a weird system, but more vaccinated the safer it is for everyone else!

halcyondays · 29/01/2021 13:48

Take it

RestingPandaFace · 29/01/2021 13:51

If it’s a short notice list you will be be getting vaccine that would otherwise be binned. Take it whilst you have the chance!

davidsSchitt · 29/01/2021 13:52

Take it

Newgirls · 29/01/2021 13:53

Take it. You’re a potential spreader so it’s a good thing 👍

QueenPawPaws · 29/01/2021 13:58

@Poppystars if you are ECV then try the online booking system. It is letting ECV people book now Smile

davidsSchitt · 29/01/2021 14:00

"Take it. You’re a potential spreader so it’s a good thing 👍"

The vaccine doesn't stop anyone spreading the virus

toocold54 · 29/01/2021 14:00

Take it. You’re a potential spreader so it’s a good thing

Exactly this.
If you don’t take it it may go to someone else that isn’t a priority anyway so you might as well and don’t feel guilty because you are doing a good thing!

ProfessorInkling · 29/01/2021 14:01

Take it. Keep a vaccine dose from being wasted.

toocold54 · 29/01/2021 14:04

The vaccine doesn't stop anyone spreading the virus

You are correct m, taking it won’t stop the spread of the virus but it will slow transmission and the more people who have it the less chance the virus will have to spread.

CarryOnPlainHunting · 29/01/2021 14:06

Take it

BluebellsGreenbells · 29/01/2021 14:06

I’m wondering if you decline if that takes you off the list all together?

Rather than decline for now?

It may send you to the back for a mop up session at the end

Take it

Weedsnseeds1 · 29/01/2021 14:07

If you have been offered it and you would liks to be vaccinated, accept.
Ignore passive aggressive people who think they are more entitled than anyone else to spare doses.
They will always have a long list of examples of the "unworthy" who have somehow been vaccinated before their far more deserving selves!

nettie434 · 29/01/2021 14:08

I would go. By definition, excluding NHS and social care staff, anyone who can go on a waiting list for a last minute vaccination is going to be outside the priority groups. Someone living in a care home can't just rush off at the last minute to get a vaccination. As others said, you are more exposed to the virus because of your job. Take it. Hopefully, in a few months we will all be vaccinated anyway.

Mischance · 29/01/2021 14:19

Accept it - being vaccinated does not just help you, but also others.

The system is a bit weird. My surgery told me to wait for their call and I would get vaccinated at the surgery. But this morning I had a letter from the NHS telling me to book online, which I have done and will be going to a centre about 6 miles away on Tuesday. But another friend has had a message from their surgery for their adult disabled son and they are not doing the jabs at the surgery but about 49 miles away!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/01/2021 14:27

Take it. And be happy about it. Apologise to no one!

Weedsnseeds1 · 29/01/2021 14:27

mischance I think there are two systems going on. The NHS letters are to book at the vaccination centres and the GP ones are either at their own premises, at a nominated centre for a group of practices (or one of the big centres if your GP isn't doing them and isn't grouped with other surgeries).
It's the luck of the draw who calls you first.
My mother had to travel 40 miles to the super centre, but some of her friends with a different GP could be done locally.

BMW6 · 29/01/2021 14:35

Take it OP - this is not just in your interests but everyones!

thereisonlyoneofme · 29/01/2021 14:43

I am on the CEV list, our town has been like the EU in starting vaccinations. However various people I know who are not health workers, CEV or otherwise seemed in the first 4 groups have been vaccinated. If there are spare vaccines they should go to people still waiting in those groups. I am still waiting for mine

thereisonlyoneofme · 29/01/2021 14:44

that should say "deemed" not seemed
