Deaths finally tipped into a drop on the daily figures today

Cases down 29.4% on last 7 days
Admissions down 11% on last 7 days
And deaths down 0.2% on last 7 days

It's a start! Suggesting a move in the right direction.
Of course this is the national picture - will vary by region.

Let's hope it keeps going that way, the numbers in my region are dropping, but very slowly. I'm so worried they will still be high when they decide to ease lockdown again.

Great news. May the downward trend continue!

peak2021 · 28/01/2021 16:34

Cases have been coming down and this is good news I agree. Just very concerned about the number of deaths.

BentBastard · 28/01/2021 16:35

My area in the last three weeks has gone down from the 800s to the 600s to the 400s so good, sustained drop.

BentBastard · 28/01/2021 16:36

Our hospital admissions dropped for the first time this week too, so hopefully drop in deaths won't be far behind.

bathsh3ba · 28/01/2021 16:43

Our hospitalisations have finally dropped today, they were rising for ages. Cases are 300s. Deaths showed a 120% rise over last 7 days though BUT the numbers are proportionally low (30 deaths in last 7 days).

My area has had a very big turn around in cases. Just hope everywhere else does quickly so we can get back to as normal as we can.

emmathedilemma · 28/01/2021 17:39

My local area is nearly back to where we were before Christmas and have to dropped to less than 100 cases per 100k but I doubt we'll get any restrictions eased any time soon :(

DrunkenKoala · 28/01/2021 17:51

Our infection rate has been dropping since beg of Jan (we’re lower than when we came out of the Nov lockdown). Last week our local hospital was reporting that admissions were coming down. Hoping we’ll start to see the local death rate come down now.

It doesn’t sound like it to me from what I’m reading lately. I’m really hoping the government has learned their lesson from November/December.

The decline in cases will slow down (and the knock on effect from that on admissions and deaths) but I’m pretty optimistic that early March is a realistic point for things to start tentatively reopening - again I’m relying on hope for the government to seriously scrutinise numbers and hold their nerve in areas that show any rises or unexplained higher numbers (said as someone who lives in an area that was tier 4 and had dd in a school in tier 3). It’s shit for those in areas that aren’t under control but it’s absolutely necessary for a sustainable reopening.
