How would you map a way out of lockdown?

If you were able to make the decision?

Boris is apparently letting us know a route out of lockdown on the 22nd February.

If it was me, I would allow everyone to bubble up with another household (whether single parent/household or not) as I think that will help people get through.

I wouldn’t open schools until at least the over 50 and vulnerable school staff have been vaccinated.
So hopefully by March, but later on in March.

I would allow more social meet ups outdoors and outdoor sport from March

Open hairdressers and gyms beginning of April with social distancing guidelines and PPE

Open Pubs, restaurants and other hospitality end of April but only allow people to go in their bubble or household for the first 3 weeks then extend to include one other household, then to the rule of 6 by end of May/beginning of June.

Allow domestic travel, but not abroad, until at least August, if not longer.

Also by May/June allow people to meet in gardens and maybe move to another household indoors so a total of 3 households allowed to mix inside

What about you?

Ask Chris Whitty and his band of merry folk to write it all down.
And then go to bed.

If it was up to me it wouldn’t be date driven (apart from travel which is typically seasonal) but would be based on numbers and would be regional.

Hospital numbers less than half what they are today, and infection rate less than 150 per 100k - reopen schools and childcare.

Infection rate less than 100 per 100k - reopen covid safe gyms and sports and leisure

Less than 75, reopen hospitality etc and allow people to meet indoors with capped numbers of unvaccinated.

Vaccinations - once top 9 priority groups done, prioritise rest of population by occupational exposure risk - police, teachers, supermarket workers etc. And then let private health sector have some vaccine if vaccine passports are required to travel.

No large indoor gatherings without social distancing until 70% population vaccinated/ immune.

Travel - open up end of June to allow for summer holidays for those who wish, with negative testing required at either end (paid for by traveler not NHS).
