Why can't Borris keep his mouth shut?

So schools will be opening from 8th March then? Really?

Just like it'll all be over by Christmas, or you can all go off and make arrangements to see family for Christmas..

I wish Borris would just shut up.

If he has in mind schools MIGHT open FROM 8th March - why can't he wait til nearer the time to announce the good news (no Borris - I don't mean wait til the night before - I know teachers need time to plan - but how about a week before? 2 weeks before? When we know for sure this is realistic.)

Just feels like promises keep being given, then ripped away with changes of plan.

I personally don't think this will happen. Or that it should. Just like I (and the rest of the country except Borrisl) knew Christmas wouldn't happen and nor did we feel lifting restrictions for Christmas would be safe.

Why give false hope then take away, rather than waiting til you have more info and certainty, and then maybe spring some good news nearer the time if the plan is actually definitely going to go ahead.

Grrrrrrrr....

Quit moaning and listen properly to what is being said. You might want to watch the update he is giving tonight at 5 p.m. if you want to hear straight from the horse's mouth.

He said the earliest date that Ministers are hoping they could begin to start returning to schools is March 8th. It is contingent on a number of factors and he will give further information in February. He said they don't have enough data yet to discuss the way out of lockdown at present.

ScrapThatThen · 27/01/2021 17:44

Because messaging includes giving people a date to aim for when it seems endless. It's like being a parent answering 'are we nearly there yet'.

CremeEggThief · 27/01/2021 17:46

Because he's a fucking idiot who always gets it wrong. Whatever he does, he will never, ever win with me. Ever.

Fifthtimelucky · 27/01/2021 17:47

He has already committed to giving schools 2 weeks notice.

The plan will be published on 22 Feb so 8 March, which is 2 weeks later, is the first possible date for schools to open.

sashagabadon · 27/01/2021 18:01

Hang on everyone was complaining with the lack of notice and now it’s too much Confused

LastTrainEast · 27/01/2021 18:03

CureCovid other people have made the opposite complaint. That he should give us an idea what might happen even if it must change later. There's no way to satisfy both positions is there.

OliviaPopeRules · 27/01/2021 18:05

Jesus some people are never happy
Tell us when schools will reopen?
Well we don't know yet, depends on various factors
Next day, Tell us when schools will reopen?
Well we still don't know yet.
Repeated non-stop for 2 weeks.
Then, Tell us when schools will reopen?
Well we now know they won't open before 8th of March and we will give 2 weeks notice for going back, still depends on a number of factors.
FFS why is he saying a date, moan, moan, whinge, whinge!

This is exactly it with some people...Boris could litterally save a drowning baby in a lake and you would complain that he took too long to reach the baby.

Some people are pathetic

MaxNormal · 27/01/2021 18:09

Boris could litterally save a drowning baby in a lake and you would complain that he took too long to reach the baby.

He's more the baby abandoning sort in reality.

infinitediamonds · 27/01/2021 18:10

But its OK, because he UNDERSTANDS the pressure parents are under home schooling.

What a twat.

infinitediamonds · 27/01/2021 18:11

(I don't object to the at least March statement, just the patronising tone of some of his comments.)

PanamaPattie · 27/01/2021 18:11

Calm down. Think of your blood pressure.

OrangeBananaFish · 27/01/2021 18:12

I got the impression that they wont open before that date not that they will start to open on that date. So they wont open in Feb or the 1st-7th March. We'll know more in good time.

StealthPolarBear · 27/01/2021 18:13

In fairness when he does try to wait so as to not set up false hope people demand to know what's happeneing, like Christmas. Announced too early because people demanded to know what the plan was.

Just about sums it up 🤣🤣
Frenchblue · 27/01/2021 18:28

I’m no fan of the government but sometimes they just can’t win. People are desperate to know some sort of end point - not least bloody journalists like Laura Kuenssberg going on and on at him yesterday when it’s obvious why they’re reluctant to commit - so they try to give an idea and they still get slated for it ffs 🤦🏻

Frenchblue · 27/01/2021 18:30

Oh and it’s Boris, his name is everywhere, shouldn’t be hard to get it right.

Sparklingbrook · 27/01/2021 18:32

Quit moaning and listen properly to what is being said

Vey much this. And it's Boris not Borris.

CremeEggThief · 27/01/2021 18:33

What's pathetic is people willing to stand up for Boris, after everything he's done, Forgetmenot157. In fact, it's more than pathetic. It's sickening. Some people think the man is a murderer. I wouldn't go that far myself, but I definitely think there's a case for charging him with manslaughter, as his and his associates' mistakes and arrogance have contributed indirectly to so many deaths.

Calmandmeasured1 · 27/01/2021 18:36

(I don't object to the at least March statement, just the patronising tone of some of his comments.).
He is not patronising but has to address his comments to everyone including those who didn't bother to avail themselves of the education system.

Well said.

MorrisZapp · 27/01/2021 18:40

He didn't say that was the opening date. Does anyone listen to actual words any more or do they just glance at headlines on their phone and go off? Messaging is literally impossible when people refuse to hear what you say.

Totally agree.

And it seems that in many cases it journalists who are the ones causing 50% of the confusion.

How many deaths? Given that all the countries he was not in charge of also had huge numbers of deaths I'd be interested to know.

Oh there have been bits here and there that I think could have been done better, but largely it's only in hindsight that people can say "ah but had we done that then..."
