Positive staff case in DS nursery- can we avoid catching?

A member of staff in 3yo DS small nursery has tested positive. They are in a different room to DS, so he doesn't need to isolate, however the staff in his room have been close contacts of the positive case.

Really worried that DS will have caught it. He has only been in nursery once this week, yesterday. Do you think we have any chance of him not having caught it? Has this happened in anyone else's experiences? We live with my elderly mum.

He is new to nursery, had his induction mornings last week and then came down with a temperature and sickness at the weekend, but had negative COVID test. He got better, and did one full day at nursery yesterday.

I think we are going to pull him out of nursery until both myself and DH are back in school teaching. Wish we hadn't sent him in the first place now, but we were finding it so hard teaching remotely with 3yo and baby at home!

To be honest, he could have already had it. Small children are notoriously hard to get a good sample from and those symptoms sound like Covid in kids. Did you do the test yourself?

I did the test on him and on myself and my mum. My son was the only one with symptoms. High temp, sick once, and a bit of a snuffly nose. He had calpol for a few days and was fine

You will just have to wait and see.

He may of had it already and you may not have known. The problem with the virus is that there are a lot of asymptomatic carriers.

I've been in the same room with 3 positive cases (they didn't know they had Covid at the time) and I haven't caught it. I really think it's just luck sometimes.

We've all come down with covid from nursery. There was a confirmed case a couple of weeks ago and our DC (and now we) all tested positive. Think there were some other cases too but kids are generally asymptomatic

My twins have been in close contact with a positive case twice this month at their specialist school (they are 4). Last contact was Wednesday / Thursday last week and touch wood no symptoms for any of us yet. It’s possible we had it with no symptoms but who knows.
