Disclaimer - this is just something dh said to me - absolutely not gospel - Good Friday lift of restrictions

It made me want to cry.

Good Friday is about 2 weeks before kids are supposed to go back to school. Am I being unreasonable (!) to think that will mean lockdown AGAIN in the summer term?

InterfectoremVulpes · 21/01/2021 18:33

What makes him think that?

Frodont · 21/01/2021 18:35

Something he's read somewhere I expect. He's gone off for a run. I'll ask him. Just wondered if it was something everyone knew except me!

Is your dh very important or something? What does he know that no one else does?

tenlittlecygnets · 21/01/2021 18:37

Is that you, Carrie?

If not, your h won't know any more than anyone else who is reading newspapers in the uk.

Frodont · 21/01/2021 18:38

No, he's not important!! Not in a global pandemic sense anyway.

Just wondered if I'd missed something. Perhaps he's literally just made it up. He'd be delighted to think people on Mumsnet might think he's important

I, as much as I don't like it, have Easter in my head as a realistic timeline. If things happen before that, great, but I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed. Easter weekend would be good, seeing we lost it last year. I think if restrictions aren't eased by end of February, they won't be before Mother's Day on the 24 March. Which incidentally takes us past the start of lockdown last year.

To be fair if the OP is Carrie, then her h still won't know anymore than anyone else reading newspapers in the UK.

My mom mentioned Good Friday too, didn't ask where she had heard it though

I think it would be a mistake to arbitrarily end lockdown just before a big holiday/celebration while the schools are on holiday anyway! If it is safe to begin easing restrictions before then they should. However if it isn't safe to do so they shouldn't. And if they want to prioritise schools, then they should wait until the schools have gone back before easing elsewhere.

Otherwise you would get a load of mixing over Easter (and tbh I can completely understand the temptation to celebrate with friends and family after a long lonely winter), which would get community rates increasing again just in time for the schools going back (if they do).

2 teachers I know have said they've been told by heads that schools unlikely to reopen before Easter half term. I'm just assuming this so I'm not disappointed and can try to have a semblance of routine sorted in the knowledge this still be our lives for the best few weeks. If things open before, awesome.

SnowFields · 21/01/2021 20:23

The reality is that it will all depend on where we are with a combination of things including administering vaccines and their effectiveness, NHS/hospital stats, new strains etc.

I don’t think we will be out of lockdown by Good Friday but I do hope the schools will reopen after Easter.

Ch3rish · 21/01/2021 20:23

It was all over the papers yesterday that this could go on until Easter, anyone with access to Google can find that out.

Your DH is well behind the news on this one.

Do you mean Easter holidays or February or May/June half term?

The Easter holidays? Or the half-term holiday before or after?
Alwaysready · 21/01/2021 20:38

My head teacher said today our academy is planning for the easter full opening....

EcoCustard · 21/01/2021 20:43

Tbf I think Easter fits in with Boris’s wanting to be the good guy image. Looking at numbers lockdown in some sorts will rumble on until Easter, then tiers and a loosening of restrictions as we go into summer. Just like last year. I was really hoping my kids would be back at school after half term and at some point in the summer I may get back to making my living after Boris and his government failed to wrap his arms around me and many others.

user1174147897 · 21/01/2021 20:48

Does he mean a Christmas-style temporary easing that will be abandoned at the last minute, or the commencement of a gradual lifting of restrictions from that date?

Either way, it sounds to me like he half listened to something about Easter being the most likely point at which we might see changes and then filled in the gaps with his imagination.

Outdoorsywithgin · 21/01/2021 20:54

My DH is a teacher and his school are planning for online teaching until Easter.

StitchInLime · 21/01/2021 20:59

Sorry guys, to clarify, they said schools won't open until 'after Easter at the earliest' so after the Easter hols which in our area means schools unlikely to reopen until 12th April.

No need to be snarky. Some of us are working full time and not combing the Internet all day.
