Do you believe there is any chance that London will be open for visitors during the Easter break?

Please don’t berate me, just thinking of booking (with appropriate refund options in place) as we really need something to look forward to.

Prices are pretty good atm.

Anyone else booking in the hope we’ll be in a much better position by Easter?

Not really, DH works for a large pub company & they all seem to think reopening in May at the earliest, guessing restaurants & other hospitality will be roughly the same.

Worldgonecrazy · 21/01/2021 16:44

If the refund option is there, book it. At least you will have something to look forward to.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 21/01/2021 16:46

@nancy75 that’s a shame Sad

With Furlough (potentially) ending in April, when hopefully, figures will be much better than they are now, it could be possible we’re back to the tier restrictions? Possibly?

I hope your DH job is secure Flowers

@Worldgonecrazy might just have to take a chance and hope for the best.

Book it. I think it will be and if not, London has loads to do without the art galleries etc. Great parks, amazing architecture , you can still do loads of stuff, Boris bikes along embankment, tubes and buses are running as normal. Lots of places have takeaway food etc .

Kitkat151 · 21/01/2021 16:50

Sage appear today to be advising that hospitality should not be considered for reopening until May ( bbc news) .... we thought about London too as have both had the vaccine but will probably book a cottage in country now

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 21/01/2021 16:51

@sashagabadon that’s what we’re thinking.

We’ve been so many times now, done all of the usual touristy stuff, love the parks etc and it’s good to know that there’s lots of takeaway options (currently) even if restaurants/pubs are closed.

So miss it Sad

@Kitkat151 that’s good to know, thank you.

Tiers will probably exist then

nancy75 · 21/01/2021 16:53

@EmmaWithTheGreatHair yes furlough ends at the end of April & from what they’ve been told they seem to be aiming for the bank holiday at the beginning of May as the day they’ll open.
The company he works for is massive ( big enough that the person in charge gets to go to govt briefings about hospitality) fingers crossed his job will be ok.
I think it’s likely to be back to tiers by then, but all the fun stuff to do will be opening last!
I’d book but make sure it’s refundable.

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 21/01/2021 17:02

@nancy75 thank you.

I didn’t realise furlough was until the end of April, thought it was the beginning for some reason. Makes sense though and thanks for clarifying.

Might just have to see what the next few weeks brings and go from there but you’ve given me some great info there, thank you Smile

Only issue is the lack of toilets when you’re out and about

nancy75 · 21/01/2021 17:24

Yes toilets could be a real problem!
If the weather is nice I’m sure takeaways in the parks & doing lots of walking/outside stuff would be good, if the weather is rubbish it would be a bit miserable having to sit in a room eating a takeaway on your bed every night,

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 21/01/2021 17:28

@Lemons1571 good point!

OP posts:
EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 21/01/2021 17:32

Although we know where the toilets are in the parks, if there’s only then a takeaway option for food, might be a bit grim

Bah!

Might be better looking towards May, warmer days, hospitality looking more favourable to opening.

Thanks for helping me to mull this over everyone.

Being a Londoner I hope so but no guarantees at the moment. Re toilets, we're not too badly equipped - centrally most of the main train stations have loos. If the galleries and museums are open you'll need to book a slot but they are so much emptier that way so it is worth it.

ThelmaNotLouise · 21/01/2021 18:41

No, I don’t think you should. London is in a state right now because of the new variant of Covid that experts think was brought into the capital from Kent. Easter is only two months away, I honestly can’t see us being open for business by then. Plus, if this was a reverse and a Londoner was asking about going to visit Devon or Cornwall, we’d be hammered for it!
