I wonder if this is a promise that he'll be able to keep...

I think we can safely say they’ll stuff this one up too.

Is that “two weeks” of easter holiday madness for teachers to put in place new distancing and testing protocols?

Because it’s sure as heck as not the week after February half term is it...

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 21/01/2021 14:58

Maybe because it will be over the Easter holidays forcing the teachers to work through it again to get ready for opening.

Cuddling57 · 21/01/2021 15:03

Sky news were saying this morning that they can't return straight after feb half term as that's when the decision is being made and there isn't a two week gap to give notice.
I nearly cried.

marshmallowfluffy · 21/01/2021 15:11

Johnson said 2-3 weeks after Feb half term at the earliest but I think that people only heard half term. Sad

I'm hopeful that cases continue to fall, that the review in February is positive and that cases have continued to fall in the community and we can start getting some of the younger pupils back. There won't be the pressure for year 11s and 13s as exams cancelled so maybe year 10s and 12s as well. If the review is February we may get a few year groups back in for a couple of weeks before Easter. I can't see the point in waiting until after Easter if it's safe to get them back, and at least if cases shoot up again there is a break for 2 weeks at Easter.

TokyoSushi · 21/01/2021 15:38

My likely overly optimistic view is that they'll give the notice around half term to open some time in March (everything crossed!!)

Dontlickthetrolley · 21/01/2021 15:43

Like many others I am preparing for this to go til after the Easter holidays, if they're back in school before then, then it's a Boris bonus but anyone who is thinking they'll be back after Feb half term may need to lower their expectations!!!

CKBJ · 21/01/2021 15:49

Hopefully the 2 weeks notice will be 15th Feb or very close to that date. DP works in school, so assuming things are just returning to as they were, why is 2 weeks notice needed? And if things won’t be like before and dare I hope for new protective measures I wonder what will these consist of because the 2m distancing is impossible.

iVampire · 21/01/2021 15:49

They’ll stuff it up with an announcement 8pm one Friday along the lines of:

‘This excellent news which has come apace from all the hard work from our colleagues in our NHS and means our schools, which were always safe for pupils because of their excellent Covid measures. can now re-open fully. We acknowledge our earlier statement that there would be 2 weeks notice, but we have heard the loud clear message that schools needs to reopen as soon as possible. Mindful of that, we shall instruct schools to reopen their sites fully on Monday’

@Frouby

There will be pressure on Y11 and Y13, how do you think they are going to get data to give CAGs when the kids haven’t been in school to get the data/evidence? They also need to be in to prepare for the “exams” that the Government have so kindly suggested they take, you know the ones that are replacing the cancelled exams?
I’m getting rather fed up with people on here and in real life assuming that because the exams are cancelled Y11’s don’t need to be in school. It is completely different from last year. They haven’t even got to sit their mocks (in most cases) so there is no data to base their grades on. Y11 and Y13 along with Y10/12 absolutely need to be in school before any other year group.

marshmallowfluffy · 21/01/2021 19:01

The media reported that "Exams are cancelled" and Johnson used that very phrase when it's not clear how grades will be calculated and y11/13 probably still have to sit exams at school that are marked by teachers for evidence purposes. Hopefully OfQual will announce details sooner rather than later
