Agghhhhh positive lateral flow test

I am a nurse on an emergency surgical unit and am doing the twice weekly lateral flow covid tests. Yesterday when I woke up I felt as if I had a cold I was all bunged up and I sounded blocked up when I was talking.

This morning I did my lateral flow test as my days to do these are Mondays and Thursdays and I got a glaring positive result! It only took about five minutes to come up. I’ve been and had a pcr test and now we are isolating waiting for the results.

I don’t even know why I’m posting this, I’m just so frustrated with the whole situation! I should have had my second Pfizer vaccine last week but it was moved to the beginning of March. I have been so careful, I know you can literally pick it up from anywhere but I have been so careful and done everything asked of us by boris and his crew and now to pick it up after all this time. Grrrrrrrr!

My husband (who so far has no symptoms) keeps saying maybe the lateral flow was a false positive and I might be negative after all but I’ve not heard of that happening, if anyone does have some good stories of a negative pcr after a positive lateral flow please share them with me!

I got my result through at 5 this morning - positive.

Thank you everyone for your get well wishes I will do my best to get as much rest as possible. I have a four year old so not easy and it’s very difficult to isolate from him at home too he just wants to be with me all the time!

Sparklehead thank you, I agree I probably will feel safer knowing I’ve had the actual virus and it’s ‘done’. At the moment I just feel as if I have a cold, blocked nose and a bit of a headache so if it stays like this I will consider myself very very lucky! Now I’m hoping we will be one of those households where it doesn’t spread to anyone else .........

I had a lateral flow test as did DH o the Saturday positive, the PCR test on Sunday was also positive.

We have both had very mild cases, just loss of sense of taste and smell and bunged up. We are out of isolation now and feeling well. Sense of taste starting to return.

I hope you also have similar, thank you for everything you do.

Thank you Neenan 😊 it’s promising to hear your sense of taste is starting to come back. My sense of taste is still here but it is definitely reduced today. Other than that I’m just blocked up and headachey.

My DS is bouncing off the walls already, it’s going to be a long 10 days 😂

As someone who is CEV it's very worrying that you have caught covid 3 weeks after your first jab. On the other hand if it's reduced from a deadly illness to an annoying cold I guess that's good enough for me.

slidingdrawers · 22/01/2021 13:11

I can understand your worry Phymp. To perhaps give you some reassurance, the OP is likely surrounded by positive cases in her workplace where she is probably providing direct care, so her risk of becoming infected (despite having had her vaccination) is significantly higher.

Dottydoodoo · 22/01/2021 14:27

Slidingdrawers absolutely!

Phymp I completely understand your worry but the previous poster has hit the nail on the head. We have all been moved around the hospital to work where we are needed and more often than not that is with covid patients. Even if I had had my second dose of vaccine in the original time frame I still likely would have caught it because I was only booked to have it last Thursday. At the moment I just feel as if I have a cold, if it stays that way I will consider myself very lucky and also consider it a good thing for the longer term use of the vaccine. I’m not sure if I have worded that right but I’m in the middle of homeschooling and my heads all fuzzy!
