This year is heading the same way as last year :(

OP posts:
Rosehip10 · 21/01/2021 13:11

It was never going to happen.

Somethingmavelous · 21/01/2021 13:12

I would have thought most of the usual large mixing of crowds/people was out for the whole of 2021, hopefully 2022 will be better?

GambasPil · 21/01/2021 13:12

Not surprised but very depressing. I went a few years back, one of the best long weekends of my life.

Atalune · 21/01/2021 13:13

Paul McCartney let this slip a while ago I thought? Not a surprise at all from us.

Slightly half as we didn’t manage to get tickets. 🥸

AuntieStella · 21/01/2021 13:16

London Marathon is already plannng a virtual event, which it hopes will be parallel to a real race (in October, not April) but could end up like last year as an 'instead of'

Greenknees · 21/01/2021 13:18

That is a shame but to be expected I guess. Extra frustrating for those who didn't get tickets though - now they are out for 2022 too.

Peggyslantern · 21/01/2021 13:48

This year will definitely be different from last. It isn't going to be the same. There will end up being lots of ways it feels better. But obviously I don't think many big events will go ahead and it's a big shame about Glastonbury.

Porcupineintherough · 21/01/2021 13:52

Yeah it's a bit shit but honestly I'd settle for shops being open, restaurants and pubs being open and being able to see family and friends.

Sparklingbrook · 21/01/2021 13:54

That's not surprising is it? It must take months to organise so better to cancel now before everyone involved starts spending money on the very small off chance it might be ok.

Butterflyfluff · 21/01/2021 13:57

Glastonbury is about as far away from social distancing as you can possibly get - thousands of people literally all over each other with minimal bathroom facilities

Plus it’s mainly young adults who wouldn’t be vaccinated by then either

I would have been much more surprised if they still thought it could go ahead

Timeontimeoff · 21/01/2021 14:22

Around 200,000 people (half helpers etc etc) without proper washing facilities for them all, crowded together... of course it would be cancelled.

Sadly smaller concerts/festivals/gigs etc will probably start falling be the wayside now.

Fiftysixthnamechange · 21/01/2021 14:23

Gutted, but not surprised. Had tickets and accommodation booked. Thankfully everything is rolling over to next year.

CovidPostingName · 21/01/2021 15:31

Hardly surprising though is it?! Wad never going to happen anyway this year. 200k+ people in one place barely four months away when we're still in a lockdown now? Nah.

mollypuss1 · 21/01/2021 15:51

Glastonbury is unique and not the same as a standard concert. 250,000 people congregating with limited hygiene facilities was never gonna happen in June. I’m sure one day festivals and outdoor concerts will happen this summer, the rumoured date is mid-July for mass events like these to start happening again. Camping type festivals with 20,000+ who knows?

TiredUselessHopeless · 21/01/2021 19:41

Live music events will be the very last thing to return to normal. There might be done happening in some form towards the end of this year, but no normal tours of festivals until 2022.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 21/01/2021 20:22

It was cancelled because of insurance for refunds, not because of virus predictions in June.

Atalune · 21/01/2021 21:00

archbishop one and the same thing surely? Confused

mollypuss1 · 21/01/2021 21:51

Where did you get this info?
Sooverthisyear · 21/01/2021 22:12

My husband works in live music touring in normal times. It’s unlikely any festivals or concerts will be happening in 2021. Most tours are rapidly being rescheduled to 2022. Not great for all the workers. Zero work since March for a whole industry.

Shock

Not sure why this is news. We're in the middle of a PANDEMIC, people
