Not sure if it was mentioned in another thread but I saw tonight that it looks like the Government plans are that we will see this lockdown lifted at the beginning of April.

This thread of tweets seems to suggest that cities will likely only go back into Tier's 3 and 4 though so we'll still be in a lockdown of sorts until May regardless of the vaccine rollout due to the shear number of cases at present. I guess any hope of things opening in February or March were a bit of a long shot with the new variant.

All seems so endless. Easter is 12 weeks or 51 working days away. I've never wished my life away so much and really hope we get an early Spring.

My maternity leave started ag the same time as the March lockdown and I go back to work after Easter....... brilliant 🙃😭💔

WanderingMilly · 20/01/2021 02:37

I think not easing things until Easter is about right....ease lockdown too early and we will be repeating the mistakes we've made before and undo all the good work we are doing (suffering for) now. I hope the government stick it out until Easter and not change their minds.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/01/2021 02:46

This date has been discussed on the threads a lot as the time, after which schools may fully reopen. Allowing people to socialise then really is a risky on that front. Will the weather be warm enough? Will enough people be vaccinated? Will there be enough herd immunity amongst the younger population? Etc.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/01/2021 05:50

It does seem an eternity but I really would rather wait until then and not run the risk of having to do all this all over again.

leafygarden42 · 20/01/2021 05:55

Fooking heck

That seems a long time off

Is that going to be long enough? Urghhhhhhhh

leafygarden42 · 20/01/2021 05:57

We were in Tier 4 before anyway, which didn't seem that different, to full lockdown.

I'm not sure how much I'll be rejoicing I'll be doing to be back in Tier 4.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 20/01/2021 06:09

I reckon the schools will start returning after feb half term.

Neenan · 20/01/2021 06:25

Has Boris booked an Easter holiday to the Maldives, is that why? 🤨

OloBo · 20/01/2021 06:27

Dear god, let’s not have him announce with certainty something based on specific dates, months ahead again. There is no certainty right now., this approach has repeatedly made him look silly.

Just issue a clear “when these conditions are met, we intend to review the opening of x, y and z”

Dollywilde · 20/01/2021 06:28

Same, @november90. While I know there are many who are far worse off, I feel completely cheated.

Icanseegreenshoots · 20/01/2021 06:39

Schools will be back much sooner than that. My guess is that they will reopen schools towards the end of Feb after half term, wait for four weeks to see how that goes, and then the plan is to slowly reopen at the end of March and throughout April in tiers.

By then all over 50s will be vaccinated.
One more month of winter lockdown, but with schools reopening is something I could cope with, putting children first is the right thing to do.
March is the start of spring, the end will be in sight.

Willyoujustbequiet · 20/01/2021 06:47

I can't see schools reopening until Easter given the horrifying situation we are in at the moment so I think this is probably about right.

Tempnamelady · 20/01/2021 06:48

We are in the NW so effectively been in lockdown of sorts since November , I can’t tell you how depressing it has been. I coped well-ish till the gyms shut and since then it’s just been so bloody grim.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 20/01/2021 06:49

Yes but if the Pfizer one dose is as useless as now being said how can they reopen at Easter? What has changed?

We also better start making vaccines for new variants now and enough for two doses or next winter will the same

peak2021 · 20/01/2021 06:59

I think one of the restrictions will be eased before then- some schools either regionally or by year group will be re-opened to all pupils.

MaMaD1990 · 20/01/2021 07:02

I'd be happy to stay in lockdown until autumn to be honest. I'm sick of the uncertainty of 'will we won't we' go back into lockdown. I want it over and done with and if that means another 9 months of lockdown, so be it.

JabbyMcJabface · 20/01/2021 07:05

Pretty sure Pfizer and AstraZeneca are producing the vaccine as quickly as they can Hmm

Covidcovid · 20/01/2021 07:10

I’m hoping it might be sooner, maybe early March. Guess it’s too early to tell. If the numbers keep dropping and the vaccination programme goes well then maybe.

DecemberSun · 20/01/2021 07:12

Far too soon to say, surely. More likely late summer.

Beefcurtains79 · 20/01/2021 07:21

Let them eat cake eh?

wanderings · 20/01/2021 07:24

Sigh. So we're just starting "we can turn thith viruth around in twelve weekth" all over again. The pain, confusion, frustration and boredom we've suffered since March has all been for nothing. We are well and truly back to square one, and now with a massive recession and millions unemployed to look forward to, and absolutely decimated mental health. Thank you, Saint Boris. This is what you will be remembered for. I hope you enjoy your place in the history books.

As for those who are hoping for another 9 months of this lockdown hell: I hope you have found another magic money tree to fund your loooooooooooong lockdown, and the mental health services which will be needed. People are effectively being imprisoned for a crime which they didn't commit.

The end will be in sight.
The end will be in sight.
The end will be in sight.
The end will be in sight.
The end will be in sight.
The end will be in sight.
We've been hearing this since March LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!

Yes this. I know some need false hope to get them through but the PM has led the country up the garden path so many times.
Mozfan · 20/01/2021 07:26

I keep reading the date the 8th March. And that things were going to start being eased then.

They did that before. Remember the 5 conditions that needed to be met before they relaxed restrictions in June? One of them was certainty that we would not have a second peak Confused
Beaniecats · 20/01/2021 07:27

So this until easter then back to tier 4
I'm done can't do this any more
