Anyone care to speculate when years 11 & 13 will finish school this summer ? Normally it's around mid May then exams for a month. This year it was exams pushed back 2 weeks, then no exams now mini exams?! But Will schools still teach for longer or boot them out in May? I need a plan! I realise this is wishful thinking!

I would hope that yr 11 and 13 will continue to be educated until their syllabus in every subject has been taught thus giving them the best chance at uni and A-levels/further education. Also every child has been fairly and properly given the chance to prove their grades. I can't see how we can now run mini exams after being told all exams were definitely cancelled. So much more additional work for teaching staff and students!

We'd all like a plan but there isn't one yet and it doesn't look as though there will be for at least a couple of weeks. Even then, that plan may change seventeen times in as many days so we're opting to have plans about things that are definitely within our control... like whether to put a dark load or white load into the washing machine!

This.

Quote fail, I agree with Nancy. They need to know the syllabus for the next stages.

End of the summer term maybe?

UncomfortableSilence · 14/01/2021 11:18

I think yesterday Gav said he wants grades to be awarded as late as possible so we are assuming we will be in till the end of the summer term. That's what I've told DD to be prepared for.

Missed that thanks. After all they've missed it would be good if they could stay in as long as possible, agree they need to have completed all the work properly let alone do tests.

@Tatapie that's what I went for! Not sure what I'll wear to school tomorrow now though...

TheOrchidKiller · 14/01/2021 18:35

Youngest child is in Yr 13. We were told last September to expect school to continue until 20-something of July, because at the time the govt had said there would definitely be exams, but later than usual. We were told not to book holidays in that golden period between the last exam & start of summer holidays.

I was miffed at the time because we've waited years to be able to do that, but seeing as the chance of a holiday any time before the next century is looking unlikely, it doesn't matter now (grumpy sigh).

Yes with one in each exam year this was going to be our year for escaping early! Never mind. Better they're occupied and who knows if we'll be going away at all. Such a shame that they can't plan anything like end of exam celebrations etc
