Worried about dp and his workmate not wearing masks!

My dp works as a gardener on an estate with one other worker. Today they were working within 3 mtrs of each other in a barn with an open door, no masks worn. Am I right to be concerned about this or am I overreacting?

If you are worried, why don't you ask your dp to wear one?

Kaylasmum49 · 13/01/2021 20:24

I have, he says he forgot to take one today. He can't force his workmate to wear one though!

Is it not their choice not to bother? Ask him to .

Kaylasmum49 · 13/01/2021 20:26

LIZS don't understand your post

You are right to be concerned, although risk is lower than it moght otherwise be. However you can only ask him to .

Kaylasmum49 · 13/01/2021 20:38

I can ask him to but whether he will wear it or not is a different story.

Not sure how you expect to police this if they lack self discipline. He could tell you he does and you would not know otherwise. In the end you can only protect yourself.

StatisticalSense · 13/01/2021 20:46

Does he work in close proximity with the same person all day everyday?
If so honestly masks are pointless as they do not give total protection and are effectively useless when it comes to prolonged exposure. Whilst they will reduce the spread in places like supermarkets and public transport where people are not typically in prolonged contact where people are spending long periods of time together the virus will manage to infect the other person even with masks.

You're overreacting.

Masks don't help and may harm. Even Van Tam said they're not necessary outside.

Kaylasmum49 · 13/01/2021 20:56

My dp tells me that he always keeps to the 2mtr distance. They are on a large estate and aren't always working in close proximity as far as I understand. I work in a supermarket and I am seriously thinking about getting signed off because of how anxious I feel about this. My mood is very low and I am struggling to get out of bed every day.

So masks give no protection whatsoever? I assume you don't wear one then.

I do because there's a massive fine if you don't, plus I don't know if someone will attack me, especially on the Tube.

It's a struggle and I hate myself because some days it makes my asthma worse, but life is tough enough at the moment without dealing with police, fines and crazy people.

Not to the wearer, no. We wear them to protect others, not ourselves.
