Has anyone who has had COVID experienced a rash?

During the day today I've developed a prickly rash all over my chest which hasn't gone away, even after taking antihistamines. I've felt generally rubbish as well (but it's that time of the month, so could be non-related).

My chest feels a bit tight but as an asthmatic this is fairly usual for me. I think my taste and smell are normal but again hard to tell as I think I'm freaking myself out.

Just looking for anyone with experience of COVID and if the rash could be linked. I'm from London, and all the '1 in 30 Londoners have it' stuff is worrying me. Any advice at all appreciated Flowers

Have you had a positive COVID test? I've heard of blotchy skin in kids, but no doubt someone with more definite knowledge will reply soon...

Unusual rashes can be a symptom in some people.

Might be worth getting a test.

tuesdayschild17 · 10/01/2021 22:23

Thank you both! I haven't had a test because I don't have coughing/temp yet and think my taste/smell is normal

Yes, me and my husband both got an itchy rash when we had covid.

ThorFull · 10/01/2021 22:25

Not me, but a colleague. Lovely lady, let us all know as it was her first symptom and persisted for a couple of weeks until she felt better.

tuesdayschild17 · 10/01/2021 22:33

@LegoPirateMonkey If you don't mind me asking, what type of rash was it? Mine is itchy small red dots all over my chest and some on my arms.

@ThorFull Do you know what symptoms followed or what type of rash it was?

Thank you both so much for replying!

She didn’t say it was itchy, just that it was from her chest down to her feet.
Symptoms which followed were slight cough but mainly fatigue.

Squigglypig2 · 10/01/2021 22:39

My son had a rash which I think was due to Covid but there was no testing then. It took quite a few weeks but eventually went.

Hello1290 · 10/01/2021 22:40

Yes I had itchy red dots on my torso and legs. Not a rash as such just individual dots.

AgnesNaismith · 10/01/2021 22:42

A work colleague of mine had a very itchy rash - it was the last symptom she managed to get rid of!

Get a test OP Flowers until then try to relax

LegoPirateMonkey · 10/01/2021 22:42

I had itchy red dots all over my arms and hands - really bumpy like hives and so irritating! I took antihistamine and slathered on moisturising creams. It lasted a couple of days.

LegoPirateMonkey · 10/01/2021 22:44

For me the rash didn’t happen until I was about a week in and I had tons of other symptoms already - fever, cough etc. I didn’t lose my sense of smell until two weeks in and that still hasn’t come back three weeks down the line.

tuesdayschild17 · 10/01/2021 22:49

Oh wow, thank you for all the responses. I've experienced a couple of rashes with other viruses but wasn't sure that COVID would be the same. I don't want to lie and say I have other symptoms to get a test, but I will definitely keep an eye and if anything changes get a test.

Any more insights on rash experiences/progression welcome and appreciated. One serial worrier over here Blush

Download the Zoe app and put in your symptoms. It’s likely to invite you for a test, no lies required. I don’t think there is a shortage of tests now so no need to feel worried about taking one. My first test was a false negative so if you carry on having symptoms after a negative, take another to be sure.

MollyButton · 10/01/2021 22:53

There are four different types of rash associated with COVID- a simple google search will show you. If you were using the app it would probably send you for a test.

Starrr123 · 10/01/2021 23:24

@tuesdayschild17 i had my positive results on the 3-1-21
I was aching BADLY 4 days before. My rash appeared on the same day as my results.
It was soooo sore and itchy! It is hives as my gp done a facetime as im pregnant. He said its very common and alot of people are report it. Mine started fading after 3 days still there very faint. All my skin has felt hot and a burning sensation! Feels awful :( what other symptoms do you have ? X

tuesdayschild17 · 11/01/2021 14:08

UPDATE: the rash is still there across my chest and very itchy. A few dots on my arms and face too. No other symptoms as of yet and seem to be able to smell/taste fine. I'm a bit baffled to be honest! I get allergic rashes occasionally, but they are more like hives. This is a pinprick rash that doesn't seem to be budging x

i'd get a test - because it will be hard to see a doctor unless you have a negative one.

But one other thing have you taken anti-biotics in the last 30 days? Could it be a reaction to them? If so speak to your GP.

ilhahih · 11/01/2021 23:15

I wondered about this.
Last January I had a horrible rash all over my body which was very itchy. I also had a cough and fever. There wasn't talk of COVID in Europe this time last year and no testing of course.
I just stayed at home for a week coughing and itching, not wanting to bother the doctor about it. I was fatigued for a while after it.

Starrr123 · 12/01/2021 08:42

@ilhahih sounds to me like you definitely had it !! It deffo started in end of dec/jan but nobody knew about it x
