My Ds had a test on Tuesday am ( has been coughing) came back negative Thursday.
Today nursery rang to say he was in contact with someone Monday who has since tested positive and to self isolate.
What are the chances of him getting it if he was negative on Tuesday?

The incubation period is up to 14 days so he may or may not have it

The coughing on Tuesday doesn’t mean he caught it from the kid he was in contact with on Monday.
But if he caught it from the kid on Monday, it has the full 10 days to incubate.
I think you need to treat the 2 things separately

RememberSelfCompassion · 09/01/2021 21:36

You dont know the chances, thats why he needs to isolate for the 10 days.

Officially cut to 10 now though.

The incubation period is still up to 14 days but the isolation period has been cut to 10. Was more about getting people to comply than for any scientific reason

You're supposed to test 5-7 days after exposure to the virus. If you test earlier the result may be negative.

You test if you get symptoms Test should be within 5 days of symptoms starting

Yes, @dementedpixie - if you test earlier than 5 days after exposure the test may not be accurate.

dementedpixie · 10/01/2021 00:05

It might still be negative for days afterwards too as the incubation period can be up to 14 days which is why you would wait for symptoms and not just test for no reason
