Lack of hospital space

Lack of hospital space is forcing hospitals to move less critical patients to hotels.

Why on earth aren't they being moved to the Nightingale hospitals? They say there's a lack of staff... so who's looking after the patients in the hotels and why can't they all go to the huge Nightingales - surely must be easier to look after patients in one area rather than individual hotel rooms. Seems such a waste of money and illogical.

I dunno, maybe they're actually treating their patients as human beings rather than objects to be warehoused for a change.

Its because they do not have enough staff for the Nightingale hospitals. That down to long term funding, training and recruiting policies from the Tories and cant be fixed by throwing money (and the army ) at the problem

The Nightingales are often located in difficult to get to places.

I know my family and friends who can be seconded to Covid duties would refuse to work at a Nightingale because the nearest one is difficult to get to.

I seriously question the level of cleanliness and infection control in a hotel. Remember when MRSA was first identified? They had infection control teams shutting down wards to clean every single surface, the tops of curtain rails, light fittings, the works. If they're that overstretched I can't see them being able to prepare a hotel room appropriately. They aren't even allowed to have curtains up for very long on wards, they're taken down and washed regularly. It doesn't take much for a wound to get infected during a routine dressing change.

worrying

The Nightingale hospitals do not have ICU or operating theatres, so not many covid patients can be treated there, plus most hospitals are so short staffed, there isn’t enough for the Nightingales.
