SSP for parents who can't work as schools closed ?

Just been reading up and saw something about being able to claim SSP

Does anyone work in HR that can shed some light?

I spoke to my employees Tuesday when schools shut and they said they would get back to me, still waiting

I work as an office administrator for a construction firm that have been told to carry on working in the office so still need to go in

I have no childcare other than school and not classes as a key worker

I haven't been paid for last 2 weeks as I took little one out a week before Xmas

They said I can't be furloughed as only started November last year they also said I can't work from home- it's possible I think but they don't like the thought which is fair enough

I will ask about ssp but in the mean time just wondered if anyone in same position? Can't work due to schools being shut?

Thanks

No!
SSP cannot be claimed for child care reasons.
SSP is there fore people that are genuinely sick or for those having to isolate for covid related reasons - not because you have to look after your child.

Can you wfh or take unpaid leave? Do you have a partner or family?

strawberrysummer19 · 09/01/2021 14:31

But the gov website implies you can, hence my question

Surely there should be something for working parents that can't work because the schools are shut?

@LIZS well I am taking unpaid leave as it is I guess

They won't let me work from home and only family are mums who are both vulnerable and having to self isolate so they aren't an option

Childcare bubble? The option is furlough but you do not meet criteria.

@LIZS sorry yes I have a partner but he works full time and does shifts so he can't be my childcare unless my work were really flexible so I can work around him but they aren't

I just mean any help for people that generally want to and can work from home

I can't see anything that implies that SSP can be used due to childcare issues. Can you send a link?
strawberrysummer19 · 09/01/2021 14:35

@LIZS no I can't use them as one is disabled and the other not an option sadly

After the first week your doctor would need to verify your illness.
If you are not ill he will not provide the evidence.

You can't claim SSP unless you are too ill to work.

strawberrysummer19 · 09/01/2021 14:36

@cabbageking I get that ssp isn't an option now thanks
