Covid or am I just paranoid?

So just before I start I have anxiety which a couple of times last year resulted in me having a panic attack. When this happens I get pins and needles in both arms, my hearing goes funny, a bit unbalanced on my feet etc and shortness of breath. Even though I’ve been fine lately and surprisingly not overly anxious despite the current situation, I suddenly didn’t feel great last night just before I went to bed and ended up having to really deep breath but I also started coughing, which I haven’t done before when having an episode.

On Tuesday morning I woke up feeling rubbish eg high temp, dizzy, sore and achey. I was absolutely fine come Wednesday morning and was ok until last night. Ended up sleeping on the couch propped up as I my breathing wasn’t right. Managed to get some sleep but I’m still coughing, hearing and balance still isn’t 100% but I’ve now noticed a change in my smell and taste. I can smell some of my cooking spices like garlic as it’s really strong but my husband smokes (does my head in) and I can usually smell smoke on him when he comes in from the back garden but I couldn’t smell it this morning. I’ve had a cup of tea and could barely taste the sugar snd even tried a couple of the kids cheese and onion crisps and could barely taste them too. Like I said I have form for panic attacks so I might just be confusing some of the symptoms, but I’m wondering if should try and get tested just to be on the safe side?

Loss of smell and taste - get a test!

RaeRaes · 09/01/2021 09:57

It’s not completely gone though as I can still taste and smell some things. I thought it was a sign if you lose it completely?

It can cause altered sense of taste and smell, do you don't need to lose it completely to have covid. Get a test.

DownWhichOfLate · 09/01/2021 10:00

It includes a change in taste and smell as well as a loss. Either book a drive through or get a home year if that isn’t convenient.

november90 · 09/01/2021 10:00

OP I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine and it won't be Covid, but because you have anxiety and some of the symptoms I would absolutely recommend getting a test. Don't punish yourself by letting your anxiety get out of control! Wouldn't it be amazing getting a negative test so you don't have to worry anymore ?!
Thinking of you and hoping you're ok xx

RaeRaes · 09/01/2021 10:01

Ah right I didn’t realise. I know my husband will have to take time off work if I get tested. Does anyone know how long roughly it takes to get results back?

Agree get tested, friends have had changes in smell/taste and also a lessening like you.

RaeRaes · 09/01/2021 10:02

Thanks @november90 I appreciate it.

If you've had a temperature, you need to get tested I'm afraid. Hopefully it won't be Covid, but worth the peace of mind. You can order a test online and they come really quickly if that's easier for you. Good luck!

whataballbag · 09/01/2021 10:05

I have severe health anxiety and have had a few tests.

Get a test. If it's positive then at least you know and if it's negative you can stop tormenting yourself EnvyThanks

whataballbag · 09/01/2021 10:05

Ooh accidental sick emoji sorry! Fat thumbs!

Ditzyduck · 09/01/2021 10:05

I had a test Wednesday and it came bk 36 hours later. My mum and dad's came bk about 33 hours later yesterday.
I had a couple of days of nothing between my symptoms and then I've had all different ones including loss of appetite and metallic taste in my mouth. Mine was positive.
Definitely get a test.

If you get a test today I'd say it should be back by Tuesday morning
Smurf123 · 09/01/2021 10:08

You have all 3 main symptoms..did you do a test on Tuesday when you had the high temp?
Your husband really should have been isolating with you from Tuesday when you started with the first symptom.

crazycrofter · 09/01/2021 10:12

Get tested ASAP. Results can come back in 24 hours or less, but it will probably be a bit longer.

Trickyboy · 09/01/2021 10:20

You need to get a test and you and DH need to isolate until you get the results. If positive isolate for ten days.

This thing is so out of control you need to act as though you've got it until you know for sure you haven't. Same goes for DH . Chances are that he has it too but may be asymptomatic (but still able to pass it on)

RoganJosh · 09/01/2021 10:24

Temperature = get a test
Change in sense of taste or smell = get a test
Cough (not a one off crum in throat) = get a test

Any one of those and you are meant to get a test. Why are you thinking you wouldn’t? I don’t mean that snarkily.

RoganJosh · 09/01/2021 10:24

*crumb!

Porcupineintherough · 09/01/2021 10:33

You should have tested as soon as you got the high temperature. Definitely do it now, what are you waiting for?

Miramour · 09/01/2021 10:36

Oh it's hard dealing with anxiety on top of illness. All the best... be kind to yourself.

RaeRaes · 09/01/2021 10:47

I sometimes get a high temp due to hormone changes that I’ve had recently and from the medication that I take. So feeling hot on its own isn’t usually a concern for me. If I had still felt rubbish Wednesday morning I’d have booked a test straight away but Wednesday Thursday and most of yesterday I was fine. I’ve not been out at all or seen anyone just in case but up until last night I’d been running round after the kids cooking cleaning. Then bam.

@RaeRaes my mum and so. Have been tested In the past and got their results within 24 hours! ❤️

PuzzledObserver · 09/01/2021 11:48

Another saying get a test.

I got a test on the strength of cough alone, subsequently had a temperature for one day and have had no problem with taste or smell. I’m positive.

Get a test. Isolate (and your DH) until you have the result. Probably get it tomorrow if you test today.

midnightstar66 · 09/01/2021 12:03

There'a lots of people who sometimes get covid symptoms due to something else but at the moment you need to test if you get even one of them regardless if it happens for other reasons in normal times. 3 symptoms absolutely no question!

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 09/01/2021 13:15

Definitely book a test. I had one on Wednesday and results back in 15 hours.
