Are your kids meeting 1 other for exercise?

I was going to arrange for my 10 year old to meet a friend to go for a walk. I would sit in the car (only 1 mile away) so they know where I am and they can walk together for an hour.

Also going to to the same for my DS so he can kick a football to a mate (no tackling).

This is reasonable yes?

Yes - bike ride round the block a few times

WhoseThatGirl · 09/01/2021 08:08

I think that is reasonable if they are old enough to remember to distance.

oohmamama · 09/01/2021 08:09

100% reasonable.

But there will be someone along in a minute to tell you you're not.

Lifeinaonesie · 09/01/2021 08:11

Are we allowed to that in tier 4? If so I'm getting my (incredibly upset and lonely) DD out of the door in 10 mins!

PotteringAlong · 09/01/2021 08:12

@Lifeinaonesie I don’t think the tiers apply any more - it’s a national lockdown, we’re all tier 5.

PotteringAlong · 09/01/2021 08:14

Here’s the guidance

Are your kids meeting 1 other for exercise?
Nonamesavail · 09/01/2021 08:14

Teenagers haven't. Mainly cause dd was lying last time and met in a big group so we have said no this time. Younger dd has gone one bike with a girl that she is at school with right now anyway

blinkboo · 09/01/2021 08:16

Yes, mine are. Bike ride or walk with one other a couple of times a week.

Where have you been? You are not in tier 4. England is in 'National Lockdown' Confused

Springersrock · 09/01/2021 08:21

Yes, both my teens have met up with their boyfriends for a walk a couple of times this week.

They’ve grabbed a takeaway hot chocolate and walked on the beach for an hour )both kept to social distancing rules)

Tinty · 09/01/2021 08:21

@PotteringAlong **I don’t think the tiers apply any more - it’s a national lockdown, we’re all tier 5.”

No we are not. I am in Tier 3. Yes it’s a lockdown, but I can still go to work and meet up with one person ina park for a socially distanced walk.

I don’t, because it’s too cold and I am wimpy Grin. After freezing all day at work the last thing I want to do is go for a freezing stroll.

chocolatemonster · 09/01/2021 08:26

@Tinty

You are definitely not Tier 3. We are all in lockdown.

In lockdown you can go to work if you can't work from home.

In lockdown one person can meet with one other person for exercise.

yankeedoodledandee · 09/01/2021 08:26

Nobody is in any tier Confused

Why do so many of you not understand?

Are your kids meeting 1 other for exercise?
MoiraNotRuby · 09/01/2021 08:28

Its fine OP. My DD is meeting a friend for exercise today. DS spends his spare time shouting at his friends via online games.

Jangle33 · 09/01/2021 08:32

I don’t think it’s appropriate. You really think your child will socially distance?! Honestly we have got to stop the virus. Mixing households even if it is technically in the rules is a crazy idea. Everyone else’s kids are just getting on with it and I can’t help a 10 year old on their own (a mile from nearest adult!) really isn’t necessary.

Jangles - why when the guidance says clearly we can meet 1 other to exercise?

OhDear2200 · 09/01/2021 08:36

I will be able to see them at all times so would intervene if I was worried about not socially distancing. As it is both are really sensible and I can trust them.

OP posts:
Tinty · 09/01/2021 08:36

The Tiers still apply whether you agree or not.

OhDear2200 · 09/01/2021 08:36

Actually it’s less than 1 mile. Was rounding up for ease sake.

Restorationandredecoration · 09/01/2021 08:37

It’s legal and given the impact on kids’ mental health I’d say it’s necessary.

yankeedoodledandee · 09/01/2021 08:39

@Tinty

What on earth are you talking about?

Grobagsforever · 09/01/2021 08:40

@Tinty

The Tiers still apply whether you agree or not.
@Tinty

They 100 percent do not. Look at the government website.

@OhDear2200

Yes this is completely ok and absolutely recommended for your children's mental and physical health. I know plenty of lockdown lovers would like to see children locked up 24/7 but they've sacrificed enough to protect the elderly!!!

My ten year old does this.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 09/01/2021 08:40

It is reasonable if they keep a distance.

Mine aren’t but I wish they would.

Always28 · 09/01/2021 08:40

The tiers are to differentiate when we’re not in lockdown. Maybe we will go back to them, who knows? But right now no tiers apply - there’s no differentiation. The whole country has the same restrictions therefore any tiers we were previously in are irrelevant.

I think that sounds fine as long as you can see them. I hadn’t really thought of doing that but it’s a good idea.

Crumpetycrump · 09/01/2021 08:40

The tiers don’t still apply - we are in national lockdown Confused
