Aibu to think I don't need a test?

Had what I suspect is a cold for the past week and a bit (started on NYE).

I woke up with a sudden runny nose and sneezing all day on NYE after feeling fine the day before.

This has developed now into a very thick mucus (sorry!) in my nose and chest although I'm not coughing often at all, I can feel it sitting on my chest if that makes sense?

I am not working RN anyway and have done my shopping online but my friend keeps suggesting I get a test.

AIBU to think that I've not had any symptoms typical of Covid and I don't need to go and get tested for what is likely just a bad cold.

Does it hurt to know?

Pomodom · 08/01/2021 18:38

When I say not coughing often I mean I may cough once or twice in the morning to get rid of the mucus on my chest from being lay down all night but that's it. No persistent cough or temperature.

But you have to say you've got certain symptoms in order to get the test, and I don't have them.

Well, technically speaking, you're ineligible for a test anyway if you don't have one of the main three symptoms, so YANBU.

I have that kind of snotty cold and I didn't test. I didn't have any of the three main symptoms. I am fine now. Dh had really mild cold before me and dc were fine.

Stretch the truth about the cough? Runny nose can be a cold but ir’s Also one of the more common symptoms of Covid.

The only way you are going to be able to tell the difference between the two is with a test. Government figures seem to show they have lots of capacity at the moment so I’d do it.

DD had cold symptoms over Christmas and was slightly unwell. She decided to test because she lost her sense of smell. I assumed she couldn't smell because she had a snotty nose, not covid, but the result was positive.
As long as you are staying away from people anyway then I guess it doesn't matter.

My DB has just recovered,no cough or chest issues at all. But he did have a fever and felt like shit.

ivykaty44 · 08/01/2021 19:17

have you got a lateral flow test place near you?

we have both, place for test if you have symptoms and a test centre you go to without symptoms

See I don't actually feel bad. I've not had a temp at all and I feel fine in myself other than snotty! Not tired or ill, no loss of smell or taste. It just feels like the tail end of a cold.

I don't think we do have any lateral flow places near us, I'll have a look.
