Takeaway food + COVID-19

With this new strain of the virus so easily transmissible is it wise for a clinically extremely vulnerable (shielding) person to have a Chinese or Indian meal delivered?

Is is likely you could catch the virus from the food itself/packaging etc?

I know the evidence previously pointed to the fact that the virus was not easily transferred from surfaces but with the new strain is that still the case?

Unfortunately we just don’t know. Some scientists speculate the variant is more successful due to increased viral load in the airways.

We’ve only had takeaways a few times since March (pizza). We handled the box with gloves and popped it in the oven for 12 minutes at something like 160 degrees.

I’m sure others will tell you it’s all fine, but I like to err on the safe side. 😂

Well if you're going to shove it in the oven I wouldn't bother as this destroys both the point of a take-away and the take-away itself.

It tastes better piping hot, actually! 🙂

Put the food onto plates, wash hands, enjoy as normal.

I'm ECV. I've had a a couple of takeaways a month during lockdown. I unpack and plate, get rid of packaging, wash hands and eat. It's been fine.

I’m cev, we have limited the amount of take away we have, but we do get them. Last night was the first pizza we’ve had since March, it was amazing! We plate it up, get rid of packing and wash hands.
