Parents (who I live with) don't want me to go to work - Boss doesn't do work from home

Hi all,
I've got a work/home problem. I moved back in with parents to save money for a deposit and after losing one job in the first lockdown (admittedly didn't lose it but it was looking less and less likely I would have something to come back to after furlough) and very fortunately found another.
My boss has trust issues (CCTV pointing at computer screens, wants a record of all tasks at end of day etc) and doesn't believe in working from home. Also owns an estate of offices so really not keen on the concept. I know that one person got chucked out/made redundant after asking to work from home last time. Can't social distance in the office, it's too small.
I really don't know what to do? I could work from home easily and probably be very productive (marketing and e-commerce management). I don't particularly want to but I don't want to cause a problem with an already very difficult Father who likes everything to go his own way. Am considering trying to rent something asap but I guess it would take at least a month to get in and wifi set up!
Difficult boss, difficult father...urgh!

Sounds like your boss is violating a number of Covid, health and employment legislation Hmm

Kitten11x · 04/01/2021 21:03

Your boss sounds dodgy. I’d probably move out and look for a new role aswell.

Aquamarine1029 · 04/01/2021 21:05

Is your father vulnerable or just a control freak?

ParkingFeud · 04/01/2021 21:05

I do 100% agree with you but in the current climate I may never find something :(

@Aquamarine1029 A control freak...like the boss! What have I done with my life!?
Diverseduvet · 04/01/2021 21:06

Is your business alowed to be open under the lock down rules?

ScrapThatThen · 04/01/2021 21:07

Can you distance at home and mask wear at home and in office?

Diverseduvet · 04/01/2021 21:07

Your posting under two names by the way

Aquamarine1029 · 04/01/2021 21:08

Unless absolutely necessary due to your parent's health, I would not be giving up the job without finding a new one, especially now.

Can you come home from work and just stay away from them in your room, and in the meantime look for a flat?

SpikySara · 04/01/2021 21:09

My DH has a similar problem. His is an office based role, they’re all SD and avoiding meetings and interactions so might as well be at home because they’re sitting alone at work anyway. But the boss is being awkward and saying no, they must attend the office. We don’t know what to do, we have vulnerable family members.

JGACC · 04/01/2021 21:17

Ah, oh well never mind about the two names, thank you for letting me know! I'm terribly opinionated on the feminist board so try to keep it separate haha!
I've just contacted a few Rightmove properties. Parents are 55-ish but otherwise healthy. I wouldn't want to give it to them but need to work. AARRGGHHH

Contact the H&S exec anonymously to report your boss. He's breaking numerous laws.
