Did anyone manage to do the mental (waffling) maths of school returns?!

Did anyone manage to do the mental math when BJ was waffling and work out when Schools are likely to return.

(I support school closures btw just didn’t think he was very clear on a plan out of the mess he’s landed us in)

After February half term?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 04/01/2021 20:37

Not until after the feb half term.

Personally I think it will most likely not before March

tenbob · 04/01/2021 20:37

Half term plus 3 weeks..?
He wants vulnerable people vaccinated by mid feb and it then takes 3 weeks for the vaccine to kick in
And then he said something about post half term so that’s obviously what they are aiming towards

Hazelnutlatteplease · 04/01/2021 20:38

He (deliberately) separated the information that schools were closing and not open until at least February

ineedaholidaynow · 04/01/2021 20:39

The guidance says schools closed until February half term

Passportpacked · 04/01/2021 20:40

Just worked out, 7 weeks for us takes us until just after half term!

edwinbear · 04/01/2021 20:43

Bound to be after Easter though, they are relying on getting the vaccine out at pace. I’m skeptical they will succeed.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 04/01/2021 20:46

I thought he said at least until 15th of feb?

covetingthepreciousthings · 04/01/2021 20:48

He's said at least February half term.. so I'm going to take that with a pinch of salt and guess Easter half term might be more likely..

jimmyhill · 04/01/2021 20:49

After half term. But unlikely that the vaccine will properly make a difference until March.

So expect this to last until Easter. Whether or not this provokes wails of "but it CAN'T" because it can and it might

YouBoughtMeAWall · 04/01/2021 20:53

Nothing will ever surprise me again for the rest of my life after this last year and the “handling” of it. Hmm

newyeary · 04/01/2021 21:07

Didn't he say after half term the top 4 groups will be vaccinated, then 3 weeks for effects to kick in from vaccines and then another few weeks for hospitals to see effects. That sounds more like Easter to me.

multicolouredcandycanes · 04/01/2021 21:11

I noticed he was careful to point out that vaccines would only be effective after 3 weeks without giving a proper end date, so I'm assuming half term + 3 weeks if that's when they're aiming to have vaccinated the top 4 categories by?

FlowS · 04/01/2021 21:12

I think he was saying Easter too...

flowerycurtain · 04/01/2021 21:14

They can't organise a piss up in a brewery let alone a worldwide beating vaccine program.

Why the chuff did it take us 4 days to start delivering. Why was it not a 6am start. Why have we not got every vet, farmer, trainee nurse sat in village halls banging it out.

If the stocks aren't there heads should be rolling.

teta · 04/01/2021 21:33

Boris added onto another two lots of provisional/if ... 3 weeks to the February date. So taking us pretty much onto the end of term. The second proviso was the baked in time lag between infection & hospital need and I can't remember the first.
