Safe to walk with friend outside?

Hello

I live in Scotland with my family and 71 year old father. I had arranged to meet a friend and her toddler for a walk outside later this week but am having second thoughts following the announcement today and the scarily climbing infection rates. I previously thought meeting outdoors was a pretty safe thing to do, but the new strain has given me pause. On the other hand I'm feeling pretty isolated and would love to see my friend if the risks are very low.

What would you do?

It is still allowed so they must deem it safe or at least very low risk. However if you are not comfortable with meeting up then it would also be fine to call it off for a few weeks.

I’m not anymore, due to the new strain. Still it’s quite depressing not to, so maybe consider both wearing masks and keeping 6 feet apart at all times and only going when it’s very quiet.

Yes outside is fine

Yes I agree outside is fine, I very much hope that this continues to be permitted in England too.

I agree that the new variant might be easier to catch outside, but I still think the risks are very low.

Thanks for the comments. This who think outside is fine - is that based on your personal feelings/hunch (totally fine if so!) or is it based on any particular evidence which might help put my mind at rest? I haven't heard of anyone who thinks they caught COVID outdoors, but assume there must be cases?
