Main headline on tonight’s news is that Schools will close for most pupils today. I’m guessing they must have been given early access to what Boris will announce but it’s a bit odd when he is literally about to speak.

I seriously hope not, they've had enough time out of school and they want to be there. WFH will be a nightmare with two young kids too.

Shadowboy · 04/01/2021 19:09

Im a yea her and I really don’t want them to close. So frustrating when the kids Just want to crack on and learn.

About time. Keeping schools open is ridiculous. They’re not safe, they’re hubs of transmission and a breeding ground for viral mutation. We need to get community transmission low for schools to open, then with safer opening.

But you can't even tell your employer at 8pm so they can find cover!

SeldomFollowedIt · 04/01/2021 19:12

Praying this is accurate.

MuseumGardens · 04/01/2021 19:13

They said on the news on boxing day there were 18K in hospital with Coronavirus, now there are 26k!

It's a nightmare that people are dying and hospitals are overwhelmed. WFH with kids is difficult but schools have had more than 3 days to prepare this time around. Provisions will be better.

Journalist Pippa Crerar saying Boris will announce schools are to close for six weeks 👀 twitter.com/pippacrerar/status/1346141920372912128?s=21

I am wishing to god that they decide not to close primaries. I just don't know what we're going to do.

SendMeHome · 04/01/2021 19:23

The Financial Times leaked this a few hours ago, so it seems to be accurate.

MuseumGardens · 04/01/2021 19:46

Did the FT say how long for? I had a quick look but I don't have a subscription

Sounds like 6 weeks initially but Jeremy hunt is saying it'll be Easter before the vulnerable are vaccinated and that is the signal for lockdown to lift? 1 term off, 1 term in, another term off.
MuseumGardens · 04/01/2021 19:53

Thanks

MiddleClassMother · 04/01/2021 19:55

@LST
Are you a key worker? Ours was kept open during the first lockdown and i'm hoping it will remain the same this time.

LST · 04/01/2021 19:59

@MiddleClassWorker sadly not 😔

LST · 04/01/2021 19:59

@middleclassmother! Sorry!

MiddleClassMother · 04/01/2021 20:02

@LST
If you struggle with them (i'm assuming due to work) then you could try for a vulnerable place. It's worth a shot!

DontBeShelfish · 04/01/2021 20:09

I'm in Wales but watching the latest PM's address. All schools closing until at least February half term, but early years provision (nurseries, childminders) can continue to operate.

SendMeHome · 04/01/2021 20:39

@MuseumGardens At least February half term, but likely three weeks after that, so data has caught up and the viruses lower lethality will be apparent.

But it had a lot of ifs, much like Boris just now... depends on people’s behaviour, how quickly we can vaccinate people, etc...

LST · 04/01/2021 20:59

@middleclassmother I am going to email the school tomorrow. I am so worried about their future. They went in today and were full of beans when they came home. They're gutted now they know they can't go back again
