Just been offered vaccine..feeling nervous

Work for the NHS so have been offered the vaccine. I'm not front line, no underlying issues, late 30's and already had covid.

I always said when I was offered I would take it without a doubt but now I have been offered to have it I feel really scared and nervous. Anyone else felt like this and had the vaccine

I'm not a clinician and I haven't had the vaccine, but I can completely understand your nerves. I always feel a little nervous before I have my flu jab, never sure why Smile

However, I am finding the whole thing so tough with the ever rising numbers that i have to say if someone offered me a vaccine right now I would go pretty much anywhere anytime to get it.

It's the only way out of all of this.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 04/01/2021 11:20

I think you just have to remember that it has been tested and many thousands of people have now had it. It's really very safe. Good luck, I wish I could have mine now! I hope it goes ok

Londono · 04/01/2021 11:21

I would love to be offered the vaccine. I am very confident in the safety of them as I work in a related field. I suspect I've got a long wait for one though.

It is natural to be nervous but I would go ahead if I was you.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 04/01/2021 11:23

I'd take it on a heartbeat! I'm NHS testing covid positive samples and we've yet to ge offered it. We're hoping soon!

LesCuriousCat · 04/01/2021 11:25

I felt the same before I had it (NHS also). I imagine many people feel slightly uneasy about it beforehand.

TalkToMePleasee · 04/01/2021 11:25

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I have booked for the Friday 8th Jan. I feel very lucky to have been offered it at this stage

If you don’t want it, can I have it?

tenlittlecygnets · 04/01/2021 11:26

Why have you been offered it so soon??

Happychristmashohoho · 04/01/2021 11:26

I’m having mine tomorrow (nhs) and I can’t wait!

TalkToMePleasee · 04/01/2021 11:33

@Happychristmashohoho brilliant - hope it all goes well

@tenlittlecygnets although I'm not front line we still see patients so I think that's why we have been offered it

The OP tells you in the first line of their post.

Work for the NHS so have been offered the vaccine

DressingGown · 04/01/2021 11:42

DP has had his first dose and says it was fine. No side effects or anything. Not sure he had any qualms about it though as he works in social care and has a heart condition and diabetes and we have 2 DCs (7 and 2). It’s been a scary time and whilst it’s not 100%, it feels like a weight off.

Hobbesmanc · 04/01/2021 12:00

Had mine a few weeks back (Community Care) - it felt like a miracle. So privileged to have been offered. Very simple and relatively pain free- no side effects at all.

tenlittlecygnets · 04/01/2021 12:10

Just seems odd that op is getting the vaccine before frontline NHS workers 🤷🏼‍♀️

In our trust everyone who is patient facing is getting it, and rightly so.

Local Trust is offering unused doses to local non frontline NHS staff on site at the end of a vaccine cycle so none goes to waste. Plus I think its logical to get all Hospital staff done to minimise transmission and sickness levels. Porters, cleaners, kitchen staff, receptionists, admin staff, HR etc are all vital to the functioning of the NHS.
Unsure33 · 04/01/2021 12:48

@tenlittlecygnets

Some nhs frontline workers have already had the vaccine

CosmicComfort · 04/01/2021 12:50

I had it yesterday; frontline NHE nurse.

I think was overjoyed to have the opportunity to protect myself and my patients. Feel fine today, arm less tender than flu vaccine.
