Appreciate it is different for everyone, just wondering (hoping) it is quite quick for some people?

Symptoms started Christmas day but only lost taste /smell NYE. All other symptoms have gone apart from this.

Still waiting for both to fully return 7 weeks later! Taste is definitely improving, but my sense of smell is still poor.

Oh no! You poor thing. Really hoping it doesn't last as long for me.

Had COVID in March. Can only smell very few things and even then it tends to be distorted - sulphur kind of smell. Taste affected by certain foods. ENT consultant says he can't say if I'll ever get it back again ☹️

I had it end of March, taste & smell went mid April, came back after a few weeks.
Everything then tasted and smelled different / wrong for another two or three weeks then back to normal.
I had two episodes of constantly smelling burning/cigarettes/rubbish for a week or so, one in September and one in November but generally all is normal again.

I have always had a very acute sense of smell and it has come back fully. It took several weeks after starting to feel better for it to do so.

IamaPineapple · 04/01/2021 09:42

I lost just my sense of smell for about 2 days, from day 5 to 7. Had very mild covid, no cough or temperature, just a runny nose and achy for two days otherwise. Hope yours comes back soon

Lost smell and taste at start of December. They have come back a bit now but everything seems really bland/tasteless and things don’t really smell how they should. I love my morning coffee but at the moment it smells totally rank to me!

Watching with interest, mine went the day before NYE, got positive result NY day and still can’t smell or taste anything yet...

Lost smell on 17 December, taste a bit affected but not much at all, just a bit cruder. Smell is just now starting to come back. Can smell wisps of strong smelling stuff now.

I had it back in March, I'm still waiting. I can smell some things some of the time - in the summer I could smell the mock orange in my garden and later the lavender. I can't smell anything bad - no car fumes, burning, gas, dog shit (not unhappy about that)
Same with taste. Some days I can taste garlic, others not. I can eat very spicy food without tasting any of the heat. I can taste sweet and salty and have been eating much more simple carby food than I ever did before because the less taste something has the easier it is for me to make sense of it in my mouth. Not good for my waistline.

I assume if the 10 days are up and the symptoms are all gone apart from this, you are no longer contagious then? If taste and smell doesn't come back for months on end in some cases, surely you don't have to isolate for that whole time?
