The 10 days for him will start from when he developed symptoms or if he had no Covid symptoms then the positive test result but your friends 10 days don't restart.

Same has just happened to a relative of mine, him and and his 2 children can finish after 10 days, his wife has to start 10 days again from day symptoms started
