Shortness of breath

Hi

I tested positive for coronavirus and the symptoms first started on 23rd. For the last 5 days ive been experiencing shortness of breath from even getting up to get a glass of water, or going for a shower

I have a 1 year old and 2 year old and picking them up to put them in the cot makes me so breathless i need to lay on my front for 20 mins to calm down again

I dont want to waste NHS time by calling 111 as i know there are people who actually cannot breathe and are hospitalised everyday but i was wondering if you experienced the same thing and managed it at home

Please call 111 you are not wasting their time. Call if it’s even for reassurance only.

Ive asked family who have had the virus and they all were able to go back to work after isolation and said they only had a cough abd fever. Im due back next week and i feel like its only getting worse

Get someone to get you an oximeter from argos -19.99 - to measure your oxygen levels. It's an easy way to keep an eye on them so you know if you need to seek help or not.
Our symptoms started on Christmas Day and I am going downstairs today for the first time since. Even walking to the loo is exhausting. We're getting a variety of other symptoms now too eg skin blisters, stomach upset etc so I assume must still be infectious if these things are still manifesting themselves.
Take care, it's an awful disease. Don't hesitate to call 111 if you need advice.

Call 111 for advice hope you feel better soon

nannynick · 02/01/2021 12:39

A video about Oxygen Saturations which may help you to know what is normal and what is a concern.

Houseplantmad · 02/01/2021 12:41

Having reread your OP, I think you should call 111. This is a very different virus from the one your other family members experienced.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 02/01/2021 13:05

I did. But that was in March/April when you couldn't get an ambulance unless you were dying - and I wasn't responsible for babies.

Please call them.

Stargazer2404 · 02/01/2021 13:27

Thank you everyone, i called 111. Also had a call back from the doctor and i explained and told him im not breathless if im at rest but very breathless during and after activity. He was very kind and said they would mainly be concerned if someone is breathless while resting but that i can call back if i am getting worse. And that i dont sound too bad while on the phone. I do feel very reassured, will just do the best i can now

I’m glad you feel some reassurance 😊 hope you and your husband are feeling better soon. Don’t hesitate to call back if you feel you need to at any time

Porcupineintherough · 02/01/2021 16:07

Glad you are getting an oximeter. Rest and use it. Dont hesitate to call 111 or the gp again if you feel you are deteriorating. And if your blood stats reading sits at 90 or less then call 999.

Good luck. You should be starting to feel better within a week .

Thinking of you Stargazer. I felt like this back in the first wave and found child's pose ( the yoga one) to be really helpful, also keeping gently, slowly mobile and doing gentle copd exercises. Good luck, it is the pits. X

Please get a blood test or go to hospital. I continued to have SOB and had a blood test, my D Dimer was 1600 and I was sent straight to hospital. I had a pulmonary embolism.

fatgirlrunning · 02/01/2021 16:44

Sorry I meant to add my sats never dropped below 95%. I had a CT scan to confirm the clots
