So many parties last night in my area - reluctant about primary school return

It's evident from social media last night that there have been a lot of small gatherings in my area for NY. I know of a few that were definitely not bubbles.

The incidence rate in my area is low right now but I'm quite concerned that it's about to have a boost from what I've seen last night. My youngest is in primary and we have been lucky so far to only have had 2 cases at school so I've been happy to play it week by week however the new variant makes me think that I need to get ahead now.

Thoughts?

There were quite a few gatherings near me too - a lot claiming it was with their “support bubble” - which they seem to think means they can see anyone they want.
I’m hoping that because there has in general been less mixing over the past 2 weeks there won’t be more cases as a result of NYE

I know, in part I think these gatherings were mostly small groups of people who were connected anyway (like a friend going to her new boyfriends sisters house for a party with his parents - they were probably all indirectly mixing anyway). I haven't seen any evidence of any of our school friends families mixing and breaking the rules but everyone at school is so interconnected by other year group siblings.

One friend has a child in primary and she is split from the father, both the mother and father have gone to gatherings and house parties these past two weeks so this one child is in contact with a lot of people by proxy. Not in my DC school thankfully but just an example of how people don't consider the proxy contacts...
