Can a recently vaccinated person shed the virus? Visiting MIL in support bubble.

MIL had the first injection today. She’s shielding but in our support bubble. She wants us to come a see her.

We’ve been nowhere since the last day of school. I did go to Waitrose last week but otherwise we haven’t left the house. My question about is; is the vaccination a live vaccine and if so does she have the potential to infect us?

My understanding is that the vaccine prevents you from getting very sick but you could still transmit it to others. Or at least that's what the Australian government is saying to justify that even the vaccinated travellers will have to go to quarantined hotels for two weeks.

They say it is not clear yet if they prevent transmission. You can read more www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/federal-government-considers-non-quarantine-options-for-vaccinated-travellers-20201229-p56qo0.html

It’s not a live vaccine, or even the whole virus, so unless she’s infected with Covid (which is possible) then no.

Sorry should have been clearer. You don't get covid from vaccines, but you can still get covid when vaccinated and give it to others even if you won't be severely affected.

Having the vaccine can’t by itself make her infectious.

However she could have covid if she’s picked it up somewhere, and could still pass it on to you.

@justanotherneighinparadise

This is really the sort of thing that would be quicker to Google yourself.
