So about 2 weeks ago I had a nasty sore throat and reduced sense of smell and taste (not a complete loss and taste was more effected than smell oddly). I didn’t feel ill thankfully. I got myself tested ASAP and it was negative. My smell came back fully within a day or two if anything my sense of smell then become heightened but still now my taste is off. Sometimes my taste is better than others. I’ve only just fully shook off the bad throat. Because my taste was still off I tested again for covid last week and again negative. I’m not sure if this was the right thing for for me to get a 2nd test but I was concerned about false negatives and also my taste has been up and down I wasn’t sure if it was a new problem or ongoing from the first time I noticed if that make sense. So yes negative too.
So it seems I do not have covid just my sense of taste is bland. I can taste things just now to it’s full flavour. It’s up and down. Smell is fine as I say. Can smell things a mile off as usual. I have quite a strong sense of smells.
I know a large array of viruses can affect senses. I’ve lost my taste and smell quite often with a cold when completely congested but I haven’t felt congested at all.
Although I’ve tested negative and obviously haven’t got covid (well I hope), no one else in my house has been poorly. I’m still reluctant to go out much just in case I had 2 false negatives. Please try reassure me that I’m good to carry on usual. Despite being covid negative I’ve pretty much isolated due to the bad throat anyway.
I think everyone is just linking all symptoms to covid. I can only assume my throat infection has affected my taste buds. I haven’t felt ill at all just the annoying throat. My taste buds are just very up and down!
