Did anyone else's covid start as a rash?

I am a nanny and one of the children that I mind, is a close contact of a covid positive teacher. So far the child was a negative last week and currently no symptoms and waiting for second test to see if the child was infected.

I found a red itchy rash on my chest the other day. I have no other symptoms. It's not very itchy but there is a rash. It's not a large rash either.

I read before that a rash can be a sign of some viral infections. Rash isn't included as a typical covid symptom.

Did anyone else experience rash?

I have no other symptoms. I suppose at this stage I am just anxious because someone close to me is possibly in the incubation phase and I'm on high alert for symptoms.

See attached research from the Zoe app people. Rash is quite a common Covid symptom (notwithstanding our government's refusal to acknowledge that fact).

Yes me! I had Covid last month and a rash was my only symptom (hives like and very very itchy) on my wrists first then all the way up my arms and stomach last. The backs of my hands went red raw and flakey. My face then felt like it had very bad sunburn for about 10 days - like my face was in fire and I couldn’t sleep.
It was only because my DD had just finished a bout of self isolation due to a positive case in her class and then she developed a rash on the backs of her knees that I Googled it and saw that in the majority of countries, a rash is their fourth symptom to get tested for (just not in the U.K. Hmm )

So I lied when booking a test and also said I had a fever in order to get myself (and my DD) tested.

Rash is very much a typical Covid symptom so I would get a proper test if you could (not a lateral flow one) . It may well turn out not to be though!

I had Covid in March and I had a rash on my torso which lasted about two weeks. It was itchy though. I also had raised purple blisters on my toes (Covid toes). So it is possible yes.

LAlady · 28/12/2020 17:31

My daughter's friend's mum tested positive two days ago. Her main symptoms are fatigue and a rash on her legs.

Starrr123 · 03/01/2021 14:21

@Norugratsatall was your rash lole this ?

Norugratsatall · 03/01/2021 15:02

Similar yes. Not quite as angry looking as that! And further down my torso.

MerinoFroggie · 03/01/2021 15:45

This is my rash. I am not a covid positive by the way and there is no other covid positive close contacts in my life that I know of. Discovered the rash around about Christmas day. It didn't expand beyond my chest.

I presume at this stage it's not covid.

I'd get a test OP, if I was you, just to put your mind at ease.
And yes, a rash is a symptom on the WHO list of symptoms.
(I think I had it in March, lots of other symptoms too, and one of them was a rash on my chest). My adult son who lives at home just got a rash (which looked a lot like yours) and no other symptoms.
Neither of us had a test, obviously, because this was when they were only testing hospital admissions.

mooshie06 · 03/01/2021 17:10

Yes my next door neighbours all have it and the mum started with a rash all over her chest which felt hot and her daughters was all over her feet - that felt hot and itchy. Then 24 hours later very bad aches in lower limbs. At that point they all got tested.

Starrr123 · 03/01/2021 17:35

@Norugratsatall my results came back today. My midwife wanted me to check it and the dr said its due to covid. I have never heard of this happening!!! Xx so scary xx

hettyhooverdoover · 03/01/2021 17:47

I did. Just like the rashes in the photo. I get tested weekly and typically 11 tests went missing the same week I had my rash and never got my result so don't know if it could have been...

hettyhooverdoover · 03/01/2021 17:49

No, not particularly..I think maybe I didn't feel 100 percent if I remember and was really annoyed when they lost my result as its the only week where I thought I possibly could have been? It was so itchy.

Starrr123 · 03/01/2021 18:11

MerinoFroggie · 04/01/2021 01:06

The replies to get tested are scaring me. I have my rash now for over a week. I was definitely scratching Christmas night. I can't remember Christmas eve. I think I was maybe a little bit scratchy but definitely on Christmas night I took note of a rash on my chest.

If this is covid related - I have no other symptoms. Not only that, I kept my contacts low and there's no one in my circle a known or confirmed positive.

If it is covid, I haven't been isolating because I don't have any other symptoms and I never knew rash can be a symptom. If this is a positive, I am petrified that I passed it onto others like my mother and my sibling at home. I am afraid for my work. I was working last week and I have a vulnerable person in my care. I am afraid for my partner.

I don't think it is covid at this stage because Christmas day was 10 days ago. I have other symptoms. None of my circle of contacts are falling ill either.

I got a woollen scarf for Christmas and I opened it Christmas eve and wore it then too around the house because my neck was cold. I wonder would it be an allergy to the wool, maybe?

My colleague but it looked different to that. She was head to toe in hives and I said get a test and she was Confused at me
Got a text saying "you were right as ever, positive"

MerinoFroggie · 04/01/2021 01:10

I have long hair and I found a leave in conditioner in the back of the bathroom cabinet that I bought a year or two ago and decided to use that on the ends of my hair. I know cosmetics have a use by date. Maybe that's another reason for the rash. I wear vest tops with cards, so that area of chest is usually exposed.

MerinoFroggie · 04/01/2021 01:13

I think if this rash expanded beyond my chest and if it was more itchy and there was an intense itch, I would definitely be isolating in my room and getting tested but this is small-is enough and not very itchy.
The itch has eased even though I didn't take any medicine of the itch.

@MerinoFroggie thr DR said to me a rash is the 4th symptom of covid. You need lots of yhem to have it. I started aching x mas eve. Done my test on the 02/01 positive. Everyone i was with x mas day are positive. Me and my MIL had the worst symptoms. My partner you wouldnt even know he had it xx

Starrr123 · 04/01/2021 06:53

@QueenPawPaws mine on my neck/back is hives the dr said. I am itching soooo bad!!!! And i am itching all over! Worried it will start to appear everywhere. Do you know what she used to help? X

Starrr123 · 04/01/2021 06:54

@MerinoFroggie i meant you dont need lots of symptoms to have it.
But I suppose if yours is tiny and not itchy maybe its just a slight rash and not covid. I hope not xx

QueenPawPaws · 04/01/2021 07:06

@Starrr123 just antihistamines and a cool shower she said
