Anyone else tested today?

Started with a slight cough and tight chest yesterday, went for a test today. Apparently the numbers of tests have doubled in the last couple of days at my testing site. So I may not hear until Boxing Day. I’m a teacher and though I had made it through unscathed. Bloody typical timing. I’m hiding out in the bedroom. We have two young DC, so may not get to do our usual Christmas Eve things. I can’t even think about not creeping downstairs on Christmas morning with them, the looks on their faces. I’m trying really really hard not to have a meltdown right now. Thinking optimistically, that I may get the result in time to have Christmas with them. Anyone else in the same position?

@HailFairy

I’m actually liking the chance to totally relax! As a full-time head of department with a husband whose work means he’s not around in the evenings, I don’t get to relax much. So I’m enjoying Netflix in the bedroom with chocolate and mulled wine!!

@Bluewavescrashing
I had a colleague whose husband had it, her and the kids didn’t get it despite being around him in the house. A couple of weeks later she got it from a colleague instead!

@MiniMaxi
wearing a mask is a great idea. The Christmas morning photos will be classics Grin

@MiniMaxi

Yes, I did think when the test site guy said the test numbers had doubled, it was people wanting a negative result to mix more freely. But now it means the wait is longer, over Christmas!

DD has developed a cough today but couldn't get an appointment this evening so going first thing tomorrow. Really hope we get her results back quickly as we're meant to be going to PIL on Christmas Day.

Sforsh49 · 23/12/2020 22:35

OP my and my husbands Covid started with a cough, but I wouldn't describe it as minor - not even from the off - it was full on couldn't stop coughing persistent. I lay in bed coughing and trying to shout my diaphragm hurts! I can smile about it now but at the time it wasn't fun! Luckily that was as bad as it got for me really though I did get a myriad of other symptoms too.

From your description and that your husband tested negative with similar symptoms a few days back I think you'll be ok, and that it's likely end of term cold, but exactly the right thing to get a test. At least try to see the kids open their presents, even if you feel you need to mask and glove with SD and windows open.

Interestingly my BIL & SIL and 13 yo niece also had it recently (not passed on from us I'd like to point out) but the youngest pre-pubescent niece didn't get it and they didn't isolate at home. I know three or four other families with similar stories (front line emergency services so we've been in the thick of it like you have in schools)

Good luck, fingers crossed for you!

mnahmnah · 23/12/2020 22:48

@Sforsh49

Thanks. That’s all reassuring. What keeps niggling with me though is that we know a couple of people who tested positive and their only symptom was a loss of taste! Lucky for me, I can still taste the choc and mulled wine Grin

I remember last Christmas having and absolutely hideous head cold and cough. Always in the school hols I get I’ll!

Is your dh bringing you chocolate and wine as well as dealing with the kids?? He's a keeper!

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 07:07

@ChristmasinJune

It’s like a text ordering service 😁. I have just received tea and crumpets for breakfast!

He is slightly losing his shit with the kids already. They are being hyper.

I’ve just had a bad cold with intense sinus pain and coughing and my test result has just come through as negative .

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 08:13

@tootyfruitypickle

Oh that’s good news, just in time to enjoy Christmas! I’m feeling pretty down right now. I should be baking gingerbread and going on a nice walk.

I'm really lucky where I am as you can have the LF tests if you're asymptomatic which means the pcr tests centres arent clogged up and people with symptoms get tests back quicker. It should be like that everywhere. All our families got tested yesterday just for a bit more reassurance we were safe to mix Xmas day and we had our results texted to us before we arrived home! 20 mins.

Really hope that your results are negative OP and that you get them quickly

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 08:18

@XiCi

Never heard of those! Amazing.

Thanks

That sounds brilliant!! Make the most of it Grin
Fingers crossed that your results show up soon though.

Nacreous · 24/12/2020 08:44

I also got tested yesterday. Live on my own now, so hoping that they come back today so I can spend Christmas with family. Otherwise, I have bread and cheese and wine in, and begged a friend to pick up some library books for me yesterday, so it will be a quiet Christmas at home!

Hope yours comes back negative too OP, fingers crossed for you.

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 08:47

@Nacreous

Thanks! You too.

All the Christmas presents have been stored in our bedroom, so wrapping them all will keep me busy too. I sent DH the gingerbread recipe Grin unlikely he will do not but we’ll see how desperate he gets to entertain the kids!!

My daughter (primary school teacher) had a test Monday, got positive result back 48 hours later. My son and I both have symptoms now but her boyfriend, who also lives with us, has nothing.

We took a test yesterday and was told it could take up to five days.

SpnBaby1967 · 24/12/2020 10:31

I tested Monday morning at the results came through at 3am wednesday morning (positive).

I was wfh from the bedroom so kept my distance for the first few days of symptoms, but ventured out yesterday and am back to usual activities today as no way can I distance from my kids as they kept wandering in my room anyway (and I share a bed with DH).

maureenfrombarnsley · 24/12/2020 10:50

Hi OP, also tested yesterday, about lunchtime. Now impatiently awaiting the result! Hope yours comes in soon (negative) 😬

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 11:14

@SpnBaby1967

DH is relegated to the sofa bed downstairs. He’s 6’3. He got very little sleep Blush

But yes, DC keep coming in the bedroom now. So I think I’ll venture into the rest of the house later wearing a mask. I’m feeling absolutely fine today. No tight chest. No cough since yesterday teatime.

Good luck @maureenfrombarnsley

I think it very much depends where in the country you are. In my area results (NW) are coming back within 24-36 hours. In London it seems to be taking 3-4 days. It’s not so much about how quiet the test centre is, but the lab capacity

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 11:28

@ceeveebee

I’m NW too. Earlier in the week it was 24 hours according to the guy at the test site. But the last couple of days have been so busy he said to expect longer

OP posts:
ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 11:35

Fingers crossed it comes early for you (and negative)

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 11:46

Thank you!

Vivana · 24/12/2020 11:57

I was tested yesterday but I'm tested every week. Results usually 48 hours for me

mnahmnah · 24/12/2020 18:10

Negative!!!

Christmas is rescued. Perfect timing. I can bath the boys, Santa’s plate. DH is back in the room Grin

maureenfrombarnsley · 24/12/2020 18:14

Oh congrats OP!!!! Great news.

I'm sooo jealous, have given up on mine now Sad
