Should the liquid in test turn pink?

I have had to take two tests (both negative) but each time the liquid in the vial turned to pink which the people checked.

My DH has just taken a home test but the liquid stayed clear. Does this mean that he has not taken the test correctly?

There are different types and brands of test which will work differently, it's impossible to say if yours were the same as his.
