How long until France or Spain are closed off too? It seems to me, as a North American, that if the new variant is this wide spread and established already, it is likely already spread across the EU, and just hasn't been spotted/tracked?
Maybe (and I hope) I am wrong, but it seems likely to me

Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands have all reported it now, so I guess that it will be showing up other places in the coming days

It's been reported in Australia. It's out. This is why the blaming of people leaving London en mass for spreading the virus was ridiculous.

I agree @secretllama it has to have been circulating for a while now

Have a look at the significant uptick in the European infection numbers per million - Denmark and The Netherlands jumped first, with the UK, speeding up more recently along with Ireland. Other nations have also begun the climb. Turkey notably closed not just to the UK yesterday, but also Denmark and The Netherlands.

Like in March, this has been everywhere for a while.
