What would happen if we let virus get out of control?

I know our approach is we have to control the virus because otherwise the NHS will get overwhelmed. The death toll would be unacceptable and there would be panic etc, it would be awful.

But how long would that be for? Would the cases keep going up and up indefinitely? Assuming the cases come back down again, what then? Would it just keep happening or would there be an improvement?

I’m asking because I am increasingly doubtful we will be able to get a lid on this new strain Sad Would it just be shit for a short period or would cases be sky high for ages?

I imagine e the old, sick and vulnerable would die. The nhs would be overwhelmed so unable to treat all sorts of other patients who would also die.
I imagine here immunity might kick in at some point after the weak are dead. How long this would take I have no clue. I'd be dead so it wouldn't really matter to me. I have visions of dystopian societies. Dunno.

Depends if the immunity is long term or not. If immunity doesn’t last... I just don’t want to think about it.
