We only were told of close contact this evening - from 4 days ago. DS 9 now has v runny nose but no other symptoms. I don’t think I can get him tested but I’m worried. He’s also v sad to be missing lots and wants cuddles - is it safe?

Cuddles with you? Of course you should cuddle your 9 year old son! Both of my children (9 & 6) have needed to isolate after being at school and I didn't stop cuddling them during those 2x 2 weeks!

I know lots of children who have tested positive with just a runny or blocked nose.

I am cuddling him loads .....currently lying in bed with him. I suppose I’m just worried about the runny nose and sneezes spreading things!

Hope he will be ok. Last research shows that runny nose could be a symptom of Covid but usually alongside other symptoms like cough, temperature so highly likely it’s just cold. Is this typical for him?
I would test his temperature regularly and maybe his sense of smell.
it’s so tricky with cuddles, also depends if you have other children to look after and if you have underlying conditions yourself. Maybe he feels unwell (temperature rising, muscle pain, headache) and that’s why he want a cuddle?

Thanks for that....will keep an eye on everything. I think I just have very high anxiety at the moment but luckily I’m otherwise well. He always wants cuddles at bedtime and stories so nothing too out of the ordinary but I’m going to be watchful.

Children's symptoms are different from adults'.

This is one reason to encourage those who still don't have it to download the covid.joinzoe.com app on your smartphone and have a profile for everyone in your family.

You can then get tests with different symptoms if you aren't in an area where they will test asymptomatic people.
