If your child tested positive, did they have a runny nose?

My youngest is full of cold and has developed a cough alongside it. I've booked a test just to be on the safe side but I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance really as my belief that it's definitely just a cold is starting to waver! So if your child has tested positive for covid, did it present as similar to a cold (ie runny nose, sneezing) or were those symptoms not present?

Sorry it’s not what you want to hear op but yes my son was sneezing and had a slightly runny nose (but just a bit damp/occasional tissue, not full on blocked). Thought it couldn’t be covid due to runny nose. Got positive result for him yesterday morning. He did have a mild fever of around 100 degrees too though.

Oh no you're right that's not what I wanted to read! I hope they're ok now though?

More bad news for you here...dd2 had a cough, snot and sneezing. The temperature didn’t start until after her positive result. I also had the symptoms of a heavy cold alongside the usual Covid symptoms and my temperature didn’t go up until I was on day 3.
If it makes you feel better though she had a very mild dose. Dd1 was also blocked up and never met the criteria for testing but given that the rest of us were all positive I assume she also had it.

Yes! My DD 4yo had a runny nose, slight tummy ache and a barely there cough. All very mild. I tested her on a hunch and was horrified when it came back positive. My mum said there was no way it was the virus because they don’t get a runny nose with it so that’s a good thing, unfortunately that’s been the main symptom with her and her 7yo sister, along with mild tummy ache. It’s just like a mild cold. Neither have temp or tbh much of a cough. Good luck to you but def get checked to be safe x

My 6 year old son had just tested positive. Had a cough for 2 days and has been sneezing with a slightly runny nose.

The ones I know had a tummy ache or runny nose, no cough and temps came very late on.

Runny nose, shivery and tired, cough and a bit of tummy ache. Didn’t take to his bed. Now better. Probably lasted 3-4 days but the tummy ache a bit longer.

Yes back to normal now thanks. Hope your little one is better soon!

I’m a HCP and have also tested positive last night on a lateral flow test (waiting for results on PCR test) with only cold symptoms for the last week. My 3 year old DS woke up this morning with diarrhoea so presuming he has it also.

My 5yo had sneezing, runny nose and a mild cough at night. No temp or other symptoms.
