Two positives in family, now a negative but has been showing symptoms?!

My daughter tested positive last week during a self isolation period, followed by me on Monday. My two sons then started showing symptoms and were tested, but tonight one test has come back negative, still waiting on the other. How reliable is the test? I assumed he would come back positive as we had not isolated from each other at home and have all had the same symptoms. Plus we have not been out of the house since the first positive test to pick up something else?!
Whilst I was extremely worried to have contacted it, it was a slight relief to know we had all had it and were making a good recovery, but now it seems maybe that isn’t the case after all?!

The 2 that have symptoms should isolate for 10 days after their symptoms started. Negative test or not they are a close contact and probably do have it as the tests aren’t 100% accurate. Hth

I think the false negative rate is fairly high so to presume Covid if known contact.

That’s interesting, I wasn’t aware you could get a false negative.

I read the test is incredibly innaccurate and it’s why they don’t use it at airports in the uk
